So, my power went last night and it was so fun manually mix the water. and so...I don't know about the rest of ya'll but my power went out... I've found the excuse to get my wife convinced that we need a battery backup... and all it took was 4hrs of turning the water manually for her to figure it out!:rotfl:

Couple of things i tried and failed

Went to walmart to see if I could create my own back up
IMG_1299.jpg

and that didn't work, so i tried to use my car battery...

IMG_1298.jpg

that melted the wire i was trying to use and so that was a useless attempt.

To run anything on a battery, the item has to work with the same voltage. Your car battery is 12v, so you need a pump or powerhead that runs 12v. Some fishing stores would sell an airpump designed to connect to the car battery terminals to keep bait alive, for example.

If you bought a computer UPS (like the APC 1500) and plugged in a nice airpump, you could create bubbles in your tank for a long time. If you plugged in a Mag pump, it might last 3 or 4 hours. If you plugged in a Tunze, you might get about 8 hours. It just depends on the product, and how much power it will pull to determine how long the battery will hold up.

Thanks. The only reason i tried with the battery was because i didn't have access to a fish store as they were closed (of course) after my power had turned off. and my closes store doesn't sell backup anythings... really weird. I went there today and found that out.

So I've heard this would work... We'll see eh?
Put up a Digital photo screen

is it close enough?

anyone know how long this normally takes?

Ok, I've moved the pic closer and it's been a few days... I think i'm going to give the "pretend you're a clownfish and swim into the anemone" trick. If that doesn't work I may go an extra day without feeding the fish and then just feed the anemone and see if that'll get them at least aware of the anemone... ?

Ok, it annoyed the crap out of me, so I moved the pics and they are no longer near the tank. Perhaps i'll give it another shot later... but it'll be much later and with an actual picture rather then a digital photo. Maybe the light annoyed them too much at night because they moved.

Yep, it's time for some updates and I got a new camera this monday... Sorry if the quality isn't the greatest, I've never used a DSLR before... give me some time. I got a Canon Rebel XS (1000D) Any pointers and advice will be greatly appreciated!

We'll start with my favorite

Don't know what this is still, but it looks a lot like a candy cane, but I'm certain it isn't

That's all for now. As i get better i will be adding more and more. Camera is great, even if I'm not... YET!

Oh and the lense i'm using is a Tamron 80mm, for those that want to know.

I'm not all that happy with it. I know it can look better, but I'm not unhappy with it and that's a plus, right?

Well... i did something crazy and I probably shouldn't have done, but I'm very happy with the results. If you aren't experience and you aren't moving i don't suggest you do it. I pulled my sandbed up and LR and redid all my aquascaping. It looks so much better IMHO. I'll post a pic later and show my new work. All the corals are on the sandbed, but i'll be drilling the LR on top, but I'm waiting on the drill.
