57 DB Rimless build

Well Ive been out of the hobby for a bit now. Close to a year. Well Ive been wanting to set another one up. Originally, I was looking around for a decent used 90 gallon but nothing was coming up.

I kind of stopped looking. But then one day I found this on Craigslist and got a good deal on it. 6 months old and walked away with it for $80.

Marine Depot had sent me an email for one day only for $60. I took it. Lol

Now I was looking for a 6 bulb T5. Interesting story. I came across one The guy only wanted $40. So I went to go pick it up and I called him on the way there and told me they broke or cracked the plastic shield so I could have it free just give them a frag when I can. I was like ok!!! Bulbs still have some life on them too

All this stuff had been collected over time. I started at the beginning of January so its been slow collected what I need

Today got a 40 breeder for the sump

And after that I pulled out my old blue bin. Added 25 lbs of live sand and saltwater with the dry rock so get it going while I build the stand and sump

So I had some free time so I started working on the stand early this morning. Got it all framed out.




Finished the skin not too long ago








The sump and skimmer fit perfectly!!! Go big or go home hahaha





I plan on starting some painting tomorrow

Thanks. Its taken awhile of collecting but im excited how its coming along. Once I get it painted, I can really start putting it together

Finished up some of the stand. Now I can get it ready to be plumbed and make the sump

I believe they are a little under $300 new.

I still have some work to do on the stand. Some doors and a way to hang the lights

I just used a paint from Duron. Ultra Deluxe. Its a semi gloss and held well on my previous tank. But I didnt spill much either lol.

Thank you. I wasnt quite ready to buy a tank but definately a deal I couldnt pass up.


Cant wait till I get back on working on putting it all together. Damn work gets in the way lol

Excellent find on that tank! I wish I had designed my stand to fit a 40br, a 20L is just too small.

I had a hard time debating the sump size. The skimmer is so big that anything smaller wouldnt allow for much room for anything else.

Im happy with the stand. It big but once doors are on it and all I think I will like it more. Its growing on me. I didnt want to make a 4 foot stand but it was the best option.

I'd have to agree that it will grow on you. If I could go back, I would like to have made room for a bigger sump. When you start throwing overflow lines, a skimmer, return pump, and other misc. equipment in, you run out of room pretty quickly.

You do quickly. Im just waiting for the paint to completely dry. Then I can bring the stand in the house and mount the sump and tank on it and Ill have a better idea how it all looks together.

My 40 breeder I did a few years ago was pretty tight with skimmer, reactor, plumbing, power strips and so on. I had a 29. It worked but I definately needed a little bit more room.
