57 DB Rimless build

Now it wasnt all good news. But glad I got it up. Its running smoothly and extremely quiet. Cant really hear anything. Which was one of my goals. Im going to make the doors soon and then it wont be able to be heard.

But the light actually started smoking when I plugged it in.....ugh. So now I have to find another light......sigh.....

Good new and bad news. This morning I noticed my baffles had broken a bit. So I had to redo the sump. Went to go redo it and the noticed I had used GE Silicone II asopposed to one. So to be on the safe side I just stripped it out and redid all the sealant. Ugh......

Made a few other things for the sump. Made a stand for the skimmer as it needed to be a little taller

Skimmer decided it would be quite loud. So I mad a mode for the outlet. Coravue sells them for $30. Had all the parts at Home Depot for less than $10

And finally got lights on the tank now and no smoke lol

Thanks Jack.

QT tank up and running now also. Took a small piece of live rock from my clown holding cell and adding the Fluval Biomax media

It just needs a new bulb which I can pick up later when Im ready for a fish

************Quick update***********

The tank has been running a few days now. Got the sump back online. But after looking more closely at the sump, I realized why the baffles broke. The back side of the sump is sitting lower so all the water is flowing towardst he backside of the baffles. Im going to have to drain it again and lift the back side up a bit so its sitting more level. I checked everything before I filled it and it showed being level. Its a fairly easy fix so Im ok with that.

Other than that everything is running great. Skimmer is broken in and cleaned all the particles out that was making the water cloudy

ATO works fine.

Lights look great granted needs new bulbs.

Tested the water and getting ammonia around .1 so its on its way

And played around with the aquascape but this looks like the finalizing of it. I may get more rock to pull the right hand side up a little higher

SpongerO- I can't thank you enough for your detailed build thread and all of the great pics! I currently have a 58 gallon rimless almost exactly like your setup. However, mine has been running for almost three years and i'm about to switch out my sump for a larger 40br. I am also redoing my plumbing and plan to create your setup, with a few minor differences.

Couple of questions: is their any reason why you did not use spa flex tubing on your drain side plumbing? I am planning too and was just curios if I should not.

Can you show me a picture of what the plumbing inside your overflow box looks like?

Is there anything you would do different?

Thanks a million!

Youre welcome. Glad youve enjoyed it.

I didnt use flex tubing just cause I prefer not to. I prefer hard pvc piping. And I guess it just looks weird to me lol

I can get a pic later tonight when I get home of the overflow. But its all stock inside. I didnt do any modification for it. Though I may split the return later.

Would I do anything different? Honestly, probably not. Its running good. Only thing I would do different is make sure the stand on top and inside were the sump is, is completely level.

The tank has finished cycling as of last night. I dropped the clowns in tonight and seem to like the new home.

Ill try to get some video and pics tomorrow.

My fish have been in for a few days now. Looking happy and swimming all over the place. They havent really picked a spot.

The tank has diatoms. Glad to get some sort of color on those white rocks

And my first piece of coral. Id figure Id test it out. Its doing well. Polyps are out. Its a purple stylophora. It was cheap and figured why not lol

I ordered a Blue Assessor and should at the LFS on Friday. Qt is ready for him. :)

Update after this weekend. My local club had a meet and was pretty good. Won a few things in a raffle. Got a 3 frag pack and some oyster feast which was perfect. One of I dont think I care for.

Dark red with a neon mouth

Pink Zoas

I got a nice piece of strawberry shortcake

A different pink zoa frag

Birds of paradise and a millepora. Mostly just a dull purple

Green acro

Updated pic of FTS with corals attached to the rock. All the corals are doing very well

Got some rastas and dont remember the name of the other lol

Clowns in a cave

Alkalinity time!! Lol

So for trace elements I got the Red Sea Pro foundations kit. I like how well its laid out in one package.

Been dosing to get the numbers a bit over the past few days. The trace elements are a little lower than I like them.

So current readings on my tank

Salinity 1.025
Magnesium 1500
Calcium 410
Alk 7.8

Mostly trying to get the alk up to 9.

Also need a small clean up crew this week.

So after a nice little dino attack, I now have the tank under better control. Syphoned out the dinos as much as I could and went lights out for 2 1/2 days. And just turned on the blues after that. Its only been a day but not growing and looks like alot of waste where they died off. Gonna syphon again tonight and continue like this to see what happens. All corals seem unaffected except my Strawberry Shortcake Acro. ****ed but still alive lol

Some current shots.

FTS

You can see here the waste from the dinos dying off.

Some zoas

Rasta went from 1 to 3 in a few weeks.

Sunny Ds

Green/purple acan

This little guy is awesome. Large white legged hermit. Keeps the sand very clean and killed all the dinos that were growing on the sand. I didnt believe it would work at first but I dont need any other crew for the sand

Also having a massive explosion of pods. So other than the dinos things are still looking good.

Well its been awhile since Ive done any updates here. Everything is running good. Had a battle with dinos, and some hydroids but now they are gone. Tank is looking good with some coralline growth going on.

Bunch of zoas and frogspawn in the back

Various Acros

Oregon Tort

Bam Bams I believe

McNeils Assessor

57 DB Rimless build

Awesome build it came along nice. I'm currently getting ready to downsize from a 75 to the same tank. What power heads are you using and how much sand did you end up using?
