Yeah, I knew I got the glare in there. I was in a hurry and just wanted to get pics posted. I hope my tank photography skills will improve dramatically over the next month (which hopefully means I have something worthwhile to photograph).

Anybody with thoughts on the LR? Does live rock need light?

Any other suggestions to quiet the tank down? I haven't quite gotten the right sized pieces to create the in sump silencer as described above, but the third trip to HD should do the trick.

Oceanic makes a 70RR that's the same dimensions as the 58 except 3-5 inches taller.

One quick question... have you tried disconnecting the power to see if it overflows?

As far as overflowing goes, it does not. I filled the tank and sump to max capacity without pumps running first. Then I started the pumps to see where my water levels would go. Before I start it up for good I will make a couple of markings on the glass so I know what will be max as I top off. I seem to be turning it on and off fairly frequently as I play with the plumbing so I can get it acceptably quiet.

It looks like you have 3 1/2' of head and with that return pushing around 500gph through your sump, it will have a little noise. I have my overflow flex about 6" below the water line in the skimmer section and it is not too bad. I am using the Mag 7 pushing about 400gph through my sump and there is a little bit of noise, but nothing major. Your probably pushing an extra 100gph through your sump and I have a 20H which is a little taller and gives a little less noise being higher. I am not sure you going to avoid the noise, but you could turn down the water allowance with that gate valve on your return and see if it quiets down a little bit.

Yes, I agree there will be some noise, but if possible, I want to minimize it. As it currently stands, there is more noise than I think there should be. I am currently out of town, so I am unable to finish this modification for the output into the sump. I do think this will help a bit.

Still curious to know about live rock. Is it bad to buy live rock with algae attached? Does live rock need light? Should I buy live rock with good coralline coverage but with some algae while not being able to give it light for a week?
