5g new venture

Hey guys, I've just re-entered the hobby after about 2 years off with a 5 gallon tank. I started my reefing adventures in 2003 with a 10gal tank, which quickly became much much too small. I moved everything into a 20H, which was up and running for about 2-3 years.

After the couple years of keeping my reefing habbit trapped in a 20g, I upgraded to a 54g corner bowfront:

I had my 54g set up for almost 3 years, and then it was taken down all livestock sold except a bucket full of the LR and a bucket full of sand. My ex and I split, and I had to move out, so I made the choice to get rid of the tank.

The following year, I was in my own apartment and gave setting up my old 20H a shot again.

this is the only shot of my 20H from my apartment

Needless to say, things in my apartment didn't get very far, as a newly single guy doesn't spend all that much time at home. I ended up moving in with my new girlfriend this last year and had been wanting to set a tank up, but really didn't feel like taking the time to set up my 54g or 20g, and possibly having to take it back down if we ended up moving. So......after some thinking, I decided that setting up a very small nano might soothe my reefing addiction for a little while.

My new setup is a 5g standard tank from Walmart. This was a present that my girlfriend got for her 8 year old son at xmas in the thoughts that it would be a simple freshwater tank.................yea right! I went through all the old stuff that I kept from my older systems and put together what I thought was the best I could do with what I had.

I put maybe 5lbs of old rock that I have used in my older systems throughout the years, and am pretty happy with the simple scape that I came up with.

The lighting is just a small screw in ZooMed PC, which I think is only 15watts. I'll soon be adding some white and blue LED strips.

For filtration, I have a 2.5g HOB refugium that I plan on stocking with Cheato.

Thats pretty much it...........simple and easy.........

Here's a few pictures that I have so far:

Well, thats it! I hope you guys like it so far.....i know it's not much to look at right now. I was planning on mostly shrooms and zoas, with a couple choice LPS, but now I may be leaning towards a little more LPS dominant tank.

Any suggestions, please let me know! Thanks everyone.

a couple more pics....I didn't know you could only post a certain number

I am coming back with a 5 gal tank also. I bought mine from Meijers it is a 5 gal rimless tank. I am planning on getting a AI nano for lighting haven't decided on much else yet.

I need to get some more lighting in this tank asap! I wish it was rimless, but I do want to keep the hood just because its in a young kids room and I dont want anything getting "accidentally" thrown into it.

I'm gonna be adding a few more crabs and snails this weekend, and hopefully pick up a frag or two.

I picked up 2 new mushrooms today :)

The orange one in the pic is pretty close to the color of the second picture, more of a pink/orange instead of red. The blue one is not as vivid as either picture makes it look, but it is very nice and bright. Both were loose in the tank at the LFS and hopefully they will take hold soon.
