6' Frag Tank Overflow

Qwiv

Persistant Perspective
I got this idea from the raceway frag tank thread and the calfo overflow design idea. It is basically a external overflow the entire length of a 6-foot 180 gal tank. The water enters the overflow on one side through a 3' slit in the tank and drains on the opposite end through a standpipe. This creates a long raceway tank, hanging off the back of my tank to grow frags in. Here are a few pics I just posted in another thread. Thought I would put them in a new thread as the idea is a little different then what is being discussed over there.

Here is a section view of the overflow

You can see that I braced the bottom back to the tank. These braces are spaced every 18" - 24". The acrylic on the bottom is oversized to to accomodate the span. 1/2" I think.

Here is a pic looking accross the top

You can see how I braced the overflow back to the tank on the top edge, and how I still have a pretty big bow. This is 1/4" material. I will be making some changes to this to correct this problem.

Here is one end of the overflow

This is where the water exits the tank, and enters the overflow.

Here is a pic from the inside

The slit is a little over 1/4" and cut with a router.

Last, but not least... here is the other end of the overflow

You can see the second baffle installed to maintain the water level in the overflow. This allows it to be used as a frag tank.

I need to take a pic that shows the entire thing. I forgot to do that.

lookin good... I like this idea... are you going to mount a light over the over to aid in the growing of frags..?? do you have frags in this section already..?? Thanks...

I am currently going to run a single Blue+ T5 accross the top and also use the space for cooling fans. I am just finishing up the canopy so the tank only hase LR, snails and some fish in it. It is sitting in the back yard awaiting the big move inside.
