6 line wrasse... my experience

hello,

just thought i would share my experience with a 6 line wrasse. i read the conflicting reviews on them, and decided to give it a try. it is a very beautiful fish!

i bought it a couple months ago. it got along well with the other inhabitants of my 29g until last week. last week it started to harass the firefish. nothing too bad, but still harassing.

the final straw was when i caught it nipping at my lps. i caught it biting my acans and scolys. they would open their mouths when it bit, and the 6 line would steal the food they had already swallowed  i saw it do it to 6 different lps last night! :hmm3: the worst part is it wasn't even eating the krill it stole! it seemed to just like to pester and steal the food! grrr....:furious:

so... i got a tip from some people on this forum and made a trap from a water bottle with the top inverted. took less than 12 hrs. i caught it this morning!:wavehand: goodbye 6 line....

so... i am done with 6 lines.

anyone want a free, very beautiful, but not so reef friendly 6 line? just come pic it up in the port st john area. pm me if interested....

+2 Lots of threads about how to get them out. The OP is lucky!

yah, i didn't even put any bait in yet. i was letting it get used to the trap for a day. i just threw a couple shells in to weight it down. the little booger's curiosity was a good thing this time. lol

i'm glad, because i was about to go fishing or spear it. don't mess with the coral! lol

After reading all the horror stories (not just on this forum) I'm amazed that people still buy these mini devils and put them in their tank! :-)

I witnessed an LFS owner tell someone "oh yes, that 6 line will be fine in your tank", I wanted to ask if it was because the other inhabitants were maroon clowns & a lionfish lol

i have had some people tell me that their 6 line gets along great with everything in the tank. i tried it and... ended up trapping the little booger! lol

it is a very beautiful fish. it's a shame....

Not trying to say they are great tankmates but mine inparticular has done no harm to any tank-mates or coral. He's been with different fish for about 2 years and corals about 1 year. I'm sure the majority of six-lines are PITA's but mine is a model citizen, he evens picks parasites off my other fish.

all those with "angel" sixlines are they mature yet?...most are fine until they reach maturity which is about the 3"+... then they become terrors. I had mine for over 6 years and took a week to catch it.

Had my 3" 6-line for a few months now. Nipped at my clownfish pair when I had them in a 26 tall bowfront. In the new 37 shallow its not stressed, and stopped bothering the clowns. Has not harassed corals yet (knocking on wood), and I mainly have LPS that I spot feed at night. My cleaner shrimp harasses corals way worse.... beat him away with a stick so he doesn't steal food. literally. I like the 6-line...its beautiful, and keeps pods/worms in check.
