Having a 5 year old and a 5 month old have slowed this down but it's finally coming along. Got the tank, stand, sand, and some of the rock from FAOIS. Great guys. Lights off or on during cycle??

Leave them on. It's just no fun looking at a dark tank! Also, I think you are just postponing an inevitable algae boom.

I have done both...I recommend just leaving them off first week or two then kicking them on but either is completely fine. Good looking tank BTW.
