60 gallon hex fowlr

OK.. so, I finally got my tank! A 60 gallon (27"x24"x24ish") hexagon aquarium. I justgot the tank and stand for $180. So, I was thinking of buying the 700gph glass-holes.com overflow kit, with a mag 7 for return. The sump will be a standard 20 gallon tall tank (I already have a skmmer, and heater.) The tank would have 2 holes in the back; one for the overflow, and one for the return, with a black double-threaded bulkhead, and some ball-socket tubing. Finally, I'd paint the back panel in black krylon spray paint. So, would this work fine for a fish only with a flame angel, some chromis, damsels, a goby or two, and maybe a wrasse?

I'd worry about chromis and damsels in the same tank. Damsels get nasty and always killed my chromis. I'd do one or the other, but as most people will say, usually multiple chromis end up killing each other anyway. I'd leave the chromis out, go with the flame a couple damsels, maybe a 6 line wrasse and I don't know what goby would be ok? What do you have in mind?

That's just what I was thinking. I still have to clean all the scum out of the tank. I bought it yesterday, and it was trashed. So far, I've taken out all the gravel, and just need to some-how suck out the discusting black, stagnant water out of the bottom. So, what cleaner is safe to use on the inside of the aquarim? And, how hard is it to re-silicone a tank? (There's barely any silicone left on the inside edges, and I was thinking I could take a razorblade, take of what's left of the old stuff, and put some new black silicone on.???)

Sticking around for this one, I have a 30G hex so it will be interesting to see what you do!

Oh, and I moved from freshwater to saltwater on my tank, and just used white vinegar to clean the inside. A good flush with clean water and it was good as new. This may work for you, depending on how trashed the tank is. Maybe try it first, and then head to a light bleach solution?

Thanks, I'll try that. By the way (agentgreen), how did you mod that hob filter to be a refugium? I have a few extra power filters sitting around, and it's giving me a few ideas.

Oh (forgot to post this a second ago), I may have run into my first problem with this new tank. I can't find which brand it is, and therefore can't find out what type of glass was used to make it. (And therefore I'm scared to drilll it.) So, Is there some GIANT power filter sold somewhere that can be used on this tank (I have a 15" long area?)

I basically cut up the media basket that came with it, siliconed one piece to the exit of the filter, and one piece to the side to hold up my light. If you look at my thread here:

http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1464024

you can see pictures of it. Should help. It's an AquaClear AC70 HOB filter. It seems to work great. After building it and putting chaeto in there, my nitrates went to 0 overnight!

If my pics don't help, do some searches for AC110 refugium...lots of threads on how to convert it, plus the AC110 should fit just fine on your tank. Not sure if it will be big enough of a fuge for your tank though.

If you don't decide to drill though, and don't go with some type of overflow, the AC110 will work great for you!
