60 gallon hexagon fish suggestions

I have a tank that would be great for seahorses but I don't really want do that right now.

It is 30in high has a flat back and is 30in across with a bevel starting at 14in. It is reef ready.

I would prefer a species that I could pair. Any suggestions would be great. I did do a search on RC but the only thing I found were clowns and seahorses, neither of which I really want at this time.

Every once in awhile I see a pair of flame hawkfish or a pair of longnose hawkfish on LiveAquaria's DD. Hawkfish are very entertaining.

That is a good idea. Since they don't swim that much having the confined space won't be a problem for them. And the pairs I have seen are pretty cheap compared to others.

Any ideas for small fish that swim near the top or mid level?

The only fish that I have personally kept that meet your criteria are the scissortail dartfish and the Chalk Bass (Serranus tortugarum). Both are wonderful fish, but make sure you have a secure lid!
