i was thinking of doing the same thing. right now i have the sunpod 2 150w and my chiller goes on all the time. you might want to raise your lights higher so that it doesnt heat up your tank much.
also do you have a canopy? that would also heat it up. mabye buy some cheap clip-on fans and put them about the water. this will evaporate some though but should help with colling the water.
i suggest to just buy a chiller. its worth it during heat waves. saves your livestock.
It would be no canopy, lots of fans, raised lights, basic corals and maybe a maxima or two under the 150. I have two chillers, just the money for electrical is an issue
I have a 24g with 150 hqi. The light is 4" of the water and what i did just put a small fan facing the light and the temp never went past 79 degrees.I am also running a 54w ho helios t5 on top that is 204w on my 24g.The mh is on for 9 hours and the t5 is on for 11.So i dont see why you couldnt do the same in a 60g hope this helps
Ok cool, I have a 60 gallon acrylic tank with stand for 140 bucks I might pick up today, I'll have to do the overflow but other then that I have everything else. I was going for a 100 which I might sill do I just wanted to know about the heat. Thanks everyone.
I guess you could relate mh to a hot day of 90+ degrees but as soon as you add a small breeze it goes to nearly 74 degrees.
