60 x 30 X 20? 250 or 400 watt Halide

I was thinking of a 60 x 3 400 watt Halide and 4 x 54watt T-5 fixture. Is this overkill on a SPS tank? Should I do the 250 watt version of this same light?

If the tank is 20" tall, the 250's will be more than enough.

+1, 250s. You could also go the route and buy a MH ballast that gives you the option of 250s or 400 if it made you feel more comfortable. As sirreal pointed out, at 20'' of tank depth, you'll be in good standing with 250. Enjoy!

Oh and Boa, I just looked at your link, get a different light fixture, due to the reflector in that unit. Here is an example:

At 30'' of tank width, you'll more than likely want to optimize your light spread.

250w are more than adequate, but if you want to run Radiums, go 400w.

I am definitely going to run Radium 20k so is there any reason to run 400 over 250 why would I even consider 400 unless it's to prepare for the future in case I go to a bigger tank?

400w Radiums will outperform the 250w Radium.
