600 Gallon with clean up crew

I am setting up a 600 gallon fowlr and I need some help with fish. I ordered 400 pounds of rock today. The footprint is 8' x 4'. I need some ideas on fish that are safe with a clean up crew. I want to be able to keep all types of shrimp, hermits, and snails. Is this going to limit me to only smaller fish?

You should be fine with most Tangs and Rabbitfish.....There are exceptions, but I would not trust big Wrasses, any Trigger, any Puffer, Grouper, or large Angels with shrimp.

I was hoping to add a couple of large Angels. Are they safe with snails and hermits?

Should be fine there, I have a feeling shrimp would not do well with a footlong Emperer (for example), but snails and Hermits I think they would ignor. Even my big Sunset Wrasse doesn't bother my big Zebra Snails.

Cleaner shrimp should be fine with angels. Emperor's especially tend to acclimate better when introduced into a tank with cleaner shrimp. The scarlet skunks have nice color and stay out in the open, cleaning all day long.

here you go...

Thanks for the chart. After looking at it I am still unsure of my stock list. I may just go with a 100% Tang tank. I do really like the look of the large angels. Do butterflies mix good with tangs and angels? I am really leaning toward a mixed tank now with tangs, angels, and butterflies.

I have come up with a rough stock list. Please give me some opinions on it.

Blue Tang
Naso Tang
Purple Tang
Sailfin Tang
Yellow Tang
Racoon Butterfly
Copperband Butterfly
BlueFace Angel

If you decide to go with all those Tangs I would try to ad them at the same time. I have a purple, two yellows and a hippo in the same 200 gallon and the yellows and the purple constantly harass eachother. Hippo seems to get along with the others no problem.

I am making some progress on the tank. The base rock is in the tank. I plumbed in the fuge and sump over the weekend and busted a bulk head, so I had to order a new one. It should be here in a couple of days. I hope to start my cycle next week. I have updated my stock list some. Please let me know of any issues you see or if you think it might be overstocked.

Blue Tang
Naso Tang
Purple Tang
Yellow Tang
Racoon Butterfly
Copperband Butterfly
Longnose Butterfly
BlueFace Angel
Flame Angel
Coral Beauty

Could I have more than 1 each of the flame and coral angels? I am thinking about trying 3 or 4 or each.

If you keep water parameters pristine and you have a couple of tangs or rabbits, you won't need a clean up crew. Except you cleaning algae of the glass. What is the footprint of the 600???? Very jealous and please post a tank build thread!!!!! Good luck, Tim

I have been researching blue throat's and I am going to try a pair.
Should I drop a tang or do you think may stock level would still be good? I think a group of flames would look good. It would give it a schooling fish look, even though they really are not schooling fish.

i have a 600 the exact same dimensions but i have tusk, sunset wrasse, porcupine puffer, some others, only thing i can keep are tiger cowries

I really like your ideas on stocking and think with adequate filtration you are by no mean overstocked in your plans. I think the crosshatches are beautiful though so very expensive compared to the bluethroat triggers. You could probably put two or so of each in without having to worry to much about aggression though I would think with 3 coral beauties and 3 flames there would be increased risk but it is possible I suppose.
