600 Gallons System - i2ik's Journal

After 20 hours, my tank is 1/3 full with Ro/DI water. I will be testing the vortech pump probably tonight and at the same time mix up the salt.

I am about to order the sand, not sure between the Carib-Sea Oceans Direct Live Sand or the Carib-Sea Arag Alive Sand. Any opinion on this?

Still waiting for my missing part: the other pendant and ACLS unit and all of my bulkheads so i can start the plumbing... :(

How long have you been waiting for this stuff? Did you expect this wait? I hope this is not the normal routine. I just ordered two complete systems from them.

Save your money on the live sand bags. Just get the dry stuff and collect some sand samples from a trusted friends tank once yours has been up for a little while. Life in the sand bed spreads like wild fire. There is no need to incur the added expense, in my opinion.

hey Richard, i had ordered 1000 lbs live caribsea live Bahamas oolite sand for mine, i like this b/c sugar fine so the fish can filter it through their gills.

I like the look of the Carib-Sea Oceans Direct Live Sand better, BUT like mike660r said, I don't think you need to spend more money on "live" sand either.

Kaidenjohn: I have been waiting for quite long, but its a special case for me i guess since he was waiting for another person to ship everything at the same time. It was just not my luck.

Mike660r: I was thinking about getting the dry sand at first. After reading an article giving by Invincible569 (Edward) on the advantage of buying live sand, i am looking foward to give it a try.

nsreefer: Thank you very much!

cbui2: Good stuff! Are you afraid of having a storm sand in your tank once your pumps will be working? You are having some serious flow in that tank! Are you going to have a DSB?I like the look of sugar sand, i am just afraid of having to see sand everywhere.

Thank you Tony! I still have time to think about it... live sand is also less trouble imo. No need to rince it a lot like dry sand.

jgs107: Thank you, will do!

ssbreef: Up to now, everything is good, tank is about 4/5 full. probably will be ok tomorrow night. I also received my light, heater and bulkheads so i am ready for the plumbing part! I wish i had my Oceans Motions 4 ways, unfortunatly my friend needed and i gave it to him, waiting to get a new one from him in the days to come. That should be the only piece missing now.

Nice Richard!! cant wait to see it flowing. Are you sure you want to do a Oceans Motions with sand? If you do, you will need to clean it out the drum every couple of months.

Thanks Ed!

Will the problem occur even if my input is in the sump (return pump)? Do you have a better alternative? I had an OM on my cube before which was BB and i was really please with it,i did not realize that sand could change something about maintenance. Thanks!

I love it. The only change I would make is adding the moonlights. I didnt know you could request this even though its not advertised. No peeves at all.. its built with quality.
