hey i woke up to my tunze 6000.00 making a ringing sound. it is no longer working. what is it and how do i fix it?
corey

Corey, thats the driver alarm going off. Unplug the pump, and check to see if there is a snail stuck in there, or some other obstruction. If it looks clear, give it a good bath in 50/50 vinegar and water. Let it set in there for a good 3 or 4 hours, and hit it with an old soft toothbrush. Clean it up really good. Then see if this fixes your problem. If it doesnt, its likely the driver box, or transformer.

I just recently had a 6000 do the same thing, and it ended up being a bad coil in the motor drive unit. (the actual power head itself)

so cleaned it up good. still no worky. could it be driver box or transformer? the other day it ran for about 1hour then started ringing again

Is it the old or new impeller? The old had break shoes that could be stuck in the out position. If impeller looks good I would guess bad motor.

Sorry, I seem to have missed this post somehow. As Shawn said, if it is an older 6080.600 or 6100.600 drive unit the brakes may be worn, missing or jammed and could cause this. 6100.700 may fix it if that is the case.

impeller looks good, and it is an older one. block style pump. so how do i go about fixing this roger?
corey

Odds are if it is not the drive unit it is the motor, the motors are no longer available, if you send in your old pump we do a discounted upgrade to a 6105.

roger could i send my pump into you and you look into it and see what it would cost to fix it? and what is the price to upgrade to a 6105?
corey

Worst case scenario you are looking at $180 for the upgrade, repair if possible will run no more than $80.

Please send it in-

roger i will send it in after the first of the yr! i actually have two but one still works, is that something i could upgrade too?
corey

You could, I do the discount as a courtesy for customers with broken pumps we may be able to salvage some parts off. If you wanted to replace the other you could get the same kit for $231 on tunze.com, part 6100.015, this is essentially a retrofit kit, a 6105 with no magnet holder.

thats what ill do. ill mail in the bad one (great customer service as always) and just keep the other one and upgrade it myself or sell it and upgrade!
so once you get my pump you will contact me and let me know how much it would be to upgrade it or repair it?
thank you
corey

thanks roger! itll be in the mail after xmas!! ;)
another question is i have a 220 72x24x30 it is a softy tank. i have 2 6000's and a 6045 plus return pump. any suggestions on pump location and maybe controller setting?
corey

I would probably use pulse mode since you likely want both pumps running at as much flow as possible and I would use the pumps in each back corner aimed to hit the front about 4ft away.

ok. i have them creating a racetrack type flow now. one on back side wall going left and other on front side going right. its the older controller style not sure if it matters. then i can adjust the time of pulse accodingly, correct

comin in mail from ohio today
name is corey edwards in case i forget to reference it. what is the turn around on repair of replaced pumps roger?
thanks again
