Hey Dave, I finally get to see the tank! Wow, looks great! I still need to see it in person. That rock scape looks killer.

As Elvis would say... "Thank you, Thank you very much" Alex, you can come by anytime. The last time we talked you were stocking your "big tank"... Id like to see it when youre done.

Here, my son is cleaning the tank after removing all the cichlids. You can also see the intake and return for the closed loop.

I glued 1/2" pvc pipe together as a frame to support the eggcrate and rock (left side).

<a href="http://s1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee461/dzfish17/?action=view&current=DSCN0248.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee461/dzfish17/DSCN0248.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Here's the right side.

<a href="http://s1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee461/dzfish17/?action=view&current=DSCN0246.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee461/dzfish17/DSCN0246.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Left and right sides together. I had to build the frame in four separate sections to get them into the tank.

That really looks great.

I enjoy slow builds more than those weekend ones to be honest because the owner seems to enjoy each step of the way instead of just throwing things in and hoping for the best.

Looking forward to more pictures of the build.

Thanks. Ive forgotten a few things (since the tank has been done for so long) but I do have alot of pics.

In this pic you can see one of the middle frame sections and the returns of the closed loop. Im using a reeflo dart with eight returns. There are three on each end and two in the lower middle. The 1" pipes for the closed loop are on the inside of the tank for two reasons... I knew they wouldnt be seen and its hard to drill through 1 1/2" acrylic.

<a href="http://s1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee461/dzfish17/?action=view&current=DSCN0277.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee461/dzfish17/DSCN0277.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

The right side (closed loop returns).

This next part was a little nerve wracking for me because I didnt want to damage the tank. I used a router to remove the 1/4" black acrylic for the backlit cave... it was a real pain and made quite a mess. Its a good thing that the tank was made out of 1 1/4" acrylic because I went a little too deep in a few places.

<a href="http://s1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee461/dzfish17/?action=view&current=DSCN0327.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee461/dzfish17/DSCN0327.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

<a href="http://s1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee461/dzfish17/?action=view&current=DSCN0325.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee461/dzfish17/DSCN0325.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

The black acrylic is out and the mess cleaned up.

<a href="http://s1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee461/dzfish17/?action=view&current=DSCN0339.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee461/dzfish17/DSCN0339.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

In this pic Ive started sanding... it was alot of fun. :D

<a href="http://s1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee461/dzfish17/?action=view&current=DSCN0341.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee461/dzfish17/DSCN0341.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

The frame is back in the tank.

<a href="http://s1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee461/dzfish17/?action=view&current=DSCN0371.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee461/dzfish17/DSCN0371.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

You can see through the acrylic but there is still alot of sanding to do... I really beat the heck out of it.

<a href="http://s1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee461/dzfish17/?action=view&current=DSCN0368.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/ee461/dzfish17/DSCN0368.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

DOH! I thought that was embossed or engraved onto the stand. It's a table, boy I feel silly. :o

Beautiful tank though. Thanks for sharing.

No problem. I thought that maybe you wanted to see the underside of the stand... I have pics of that too. :uhoh2: I appreciate the comments. There's no reason to drag this thread out so I'll be putting more pics up soon... right after I mow the lawn.

The lawn is mowed so now we can get back to the important things in life. The frame is finished and ready for some paint. I threw a T5 behind the tank to add to your viewing experience. :D
