It sounds like there is no better time than now. I find it better to take on these types of projects when the better half is out of town...especially when the inevitable answer is "No."

If/When she returns and disapproves of the debauchery; simply reply, "What's done is done," "I can't just get rid of it after I have already put all this work into it,"or my favorite "I am sorry honey, I don't know what I was thinking but, I'll make it work."
