There's a few problems with this pump and I seem to have gotten two of them. Have a look;

The C clamp has two tabs missing and the shaft that isn't suppose to be able to move has completely come out of the unit.

Here's the best part, I'm stuck with this unit. You people in the USA have no idea how lucky you are to have someone like Roger as a distributor. Unfortunately I'm in Canada and my distributor Phil hasn't returned any of the three emails that I've sent over the past month or answered the phone. Oh well...

Anyways, while we're on the subject should the shaft be rusted at all? Mine has red rings that seem to be rust. AFAIK rust in the reef is bad.

Well I know that being outside of your district you can't do much about my situation, nor do I expect you to. I'm just wondering about the rusted shaft, and perhaps providing a bit of feedback.

First, Phil has been travelling for business, he just called me from Marine Depot today as he is the importer for North America of Giesemann lights and Mr. Finken wanted to tour the distributors. He will respond, he has been in the States for probably 2-3 weeks.

The first pumps had some flaws, the tabs were burned in the molding process, basically it isn't plastic, it is charcoal so it broke very easily. This has been solved and you should be able to get a new one, no charge.

The shaft should not have come out, The hole in the center of the magnet was too large, the magnet wobbled as it spun and shook the shaft free. This is solved now. You should get a new pump. The shaft rusts only superficially, it is stainless steel but when heated by friction (wobble) the reaction is accelerated. You can see this with SS kitchen utensils, they always have a few specs of rust out of the dishwasher but they are not really rusting. This miniscule amount of iron is not going to be harmful, in fact the worst the rust could do in much larger quantities is aggrevate an algae problem, it isn't a deadly toxin.

I run nanos so small things can be big problems, I just didn't know if it already should have rusted.

Phil being away would explain why he hasn't answered over the past month. It seems that whenever I need to get hold of him he's gone somewhere. He needs an assistant, or I just need better luck.

Thanks for the reply.
