6025 review and problem

Got my 6025's today from aquarium specialty (thanks scott). Maybe I just had too high of hopes for them, but I am a little disappointed. I replaced the mj1200's I was using for 2 reasons
1) noise. they're a little noisy, not terrible, but i wanted something quieter
2) they add a lot of heat to the tank.

The 6025's were easy to assemble and are a little more aesthetically pleaseing in the tank than the mj's. The mj1200's with the flow dispersing attachment actually moves more water than the 6025's. This isnt a problem really b/c I dont need a lot of flow. Instead of having them alternate 1 hour intervals like I had planned and had been doing with the mj's, I'll just leave them on all the time. Again, I will emphasize, this isnt a problem. I just thought I should mention it b/c I had read a couple of reviews stating that the flow was really powerful (someone compared it to a seio 820) and I just wanted to make sure people were aware of reality and could buy the appropriate product (you might want to wait for the 6045's).

The second thing is that they are INCREDIBLY noisy. One is slightly louder than the maxijet (not a terribly offensive noise, just a constant buzz/hum), the other is terribly noisy. I can hear it from my bedroom about 15 ft away. Is this normal? I know pumps usually quiet down after they wear/break in, but this has got a long long way to go.

here are some pics. excuse the dirty glass. I havent cleaned it in a while.

From my experience the noise will be gone within a week. The heat makes no sense, both pumps are using half of the power of one maxijet and it would take even a large pump a fair amount of time to add noticable heat to an aquarium.

did your MJ's have any mods? There's no way any unmodded MJ could match the Nano's in flow . . .

Have you ever used a Tunze Stream or felt the flow? Sure, the MJ may have FELT more powerful, seeing as it has a very small diameter outlet so the flow is concentrated. Streams have a very broad flow so you won't be pressure-washing your corals!

roger, i think he meant that the mj1200 added heat to the tank. you'll notice he says that there are two reasons why he REPLACED his mj1200.

1.noise
2.heat

i may be wrong! correct me if i am scarletknight06! :)

you are correct dangerrr

jcraft,
no, the mj's were unmodded. Yes I know the flow is wider on the nanostream. If you use the flow dispersing attachment on the mj1200 and angle it, it results in a wide and pretty powerful flow.

My 6025s also replaced mj1200s. For sure there is more water being pushed arund by the 6025s. If you feel around in front of the pump, the flow of the nano stream is very gentle compared to the mj and could give you the impression that there's less flow. But, try putting some food like cyclopeeze in your tank with the mjs and then again with the nano streams. You'll find that with the nano streams the food gets carried much more throughout the entire tank.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree. I couldnt have both mj1200's turned on at the same time or I would get a sandstorm. I can have both 6025's on and the sand bed is stable so to speak.

you can disagree if you want, but I'm telling you I have the 6025 in my tank and its not doing what the mj1200 was with the flow dispersing attachment. Its not a bad thing, the 6025 was intended for smaller tanks which is why I bought, its just reality.

smatter,
Logic tells me that the opposite is true of what you say. If the 6025 was dispersing the flow more, wouldnt it be blowing around my sandbed more than the mj's if they have a narrow stream?

install mj1200 in the left part of tank pointing to the right directly.
install 6025 in the right part pointing to the left directly.
turn one on and place arm in middle of tank, feel for flow. to be more accurate, release small particles in middle of tank to get an idea. (maybe alk from 2 part, fish food, etc.) compare the 2, this should be able to land an answer

The way I had the mj1200's set up was that they were mounted in the rear corne of my tank with the nozzles pointed staight forward, then the flow disperser nozzle was angled at 45 degrees or so poiting to the middle of the tank. I understand the 6025's and tunze stream wide flow pattern, I'm just stating my experiences.

I'm done arguing about it.

dude you are wrong on this one the maxi doesnt do anything like these nano streams i swear these things are great your not noticing the "RESIDUAL" flow the flow that is created as a result of the wide pattern
i pointed my maxi jet straight at my nano stream and the flow from the nano stream was sooooo much better it engulfed the maxi and the stream coming out of the maxi didnt have the force to mess with the stream if were talking about real flow not gph but flow these things are superior
