6025 starts up in reverse

I got my 6025 a few months ago and am finally getting started on my tank setup. I put it in 30gallons of RO water to try it out and it starts in reverse more than 50% of the time (probably about 80%). I tried letting it run a little (10-30sec) but it doest switch direction. If I put my hand over the output it does change to proper direction. It also does a little clicking/grinding sound when starting up. Whats wrong?

It also seems to vibrate when using the magnetic holder a bit. Nothing extreme but much louder than if I take it off of the magnet. Maybe this is because I already broke one of the little tabs when trying to take it out of the holder. No big deal here I can jsut glue it to the magnet, but maybe the vibration is wrong too.

I saw some other people had the shafts loose but mine does not seem to come out of the pump.

Your drive unit is too tight fitting, I can send a new one if you PM me an address. With regards to the clicking on start up, that is normal and part of the way it corrects its direction. It just has too tight a fit to complete the correction.

Thanks! With the new prop unit it now clicks for a few seconds and runs in the correct direction.

I just got 2 x 6025 and when I plug them in I noticed they go reverse, but within second they back to normal.

Roger is this normal too?

I think the initial reverse is normal. He said the click for a moment then correct direction.

BUT, I must have been just excited to see it go forward because I think the vibration is even worse than before. It seems to be a vibration/rubbing/grinding noise. If I pull it out of the holder I can still hear it happening but much fainter when it is not transfered through the holder and glass. It also seems to vary when I was pulling or slightly squeezing the powerhead sometimes (as in when I was taking it out of the holder or putting it back in). Is this normal noise?!

Yes, the pump reverses itself by allowing the propeller assembly to fly out when spinning backwards, it then falls back in spinning the right way.

NaClFinatic, check that the disks are not worn, these are small washers at the bottom of the shaft, they should be about the diameter of a pen or pencil and 1mm thick.

OK I think I have the problem. I took the pump apart and used a tweezers to pull the disc out and the shaft came with it. I read in the other threads that the shaft should not come out. So I am guessing that is the issue. I didn't try real hard but the disc seems to be on the shaft pretty good and seem a little smaller in diameter than a pen but seems about the right thickness.

Yes, that would be the problem, can you get by for another week or two? We are out of replacements.

I'll try. I put it together again and it wouldnt start so I figure I just didnt get the shaft in all the way so it wast in the right. I'll try again.

Everyone else is out too! I was going to order another since I want at least two. I'll look around a little more...

The latest pumps are much improved and won't have this problem, this was a problem in the first production series.
