6040

Just wondering if this pump (and all the DC pumps in general) have a random mode? Meaning, are they like a Vortech Reef Crest mode where you can set a max speed and the pump will vary around speed back and forth up to that maximum? Or is there only a high and low setting and it switches back and forth?

Thanks

The 6040 with the 7090 controller can only pulse between 2 speeds and a wave mode. But u can use multicotrollers or apex to control them.

As Adrian said. We generally stick to flow patterns that we feel research on natural habitats support. Natural flow tends to be fairly rhythmic with the exception of storms and studies shows corals "learn" these patterns and deploy polyps to feed based on expected patterns. The pulse is designed to roughly mimic the wash of waves and to further broaden the flow when slow and fast moving water collide. Wave mode creates an actual standing wave, our more deluxe controllers also add tide mode so you can alternate flow direction and that can be overlapped by a periodic storm to stir up any detritus and clean the reef.

OK, that's no problem. My only concern is placement although the 6040 is small, the MP10 is obviously smaller in the tank and I don't have much room where the rocks are. I'll have to measure it all out. I have two 6045's in this tank on the sides and they are great but I would like to add another programmable pump on the back wall to create even more turbulence.

I have a 6040 low down the middle of my nano run the cord down the sand bed then up the silicon u don't even no it's in there. I run wave mode they produce a great standing wave. I used to have a mp10' on there but I found the noise and the placement are limited on all in one tanks. I have 1 down the back of my 120g 4 foot tank with 6095 on the sides. All my tank are completely silent you won't be disappointed if u go with the 6040 they are amazing pumps.
