Im one of those guys who likes to exhaust all known possibilities before crying help. But for the sake of what little hair I have left I sure could use some
This past weekend has been rough on me and my new pump. It's not on a timer and plugged straight into the strip, but once every 2 weeks or so I need to turn off for a few minutes for varying reasons, water changes, feeding etc. This time it didnt turn back on, which I naturally suspected calcium deposits and after a few tries of pluggin in and out it started back up. Just as suspected? Maybe not, it's still kinda making a rattle sound like it would on start up. So after having to leave it off till I could come back home from work to clean it, I did just that. Starts up now without a hitch but is loud and very annoying. After wiggling it around, placing my hand in front of it, to stop and restart the flow it still makes the rattling, albeit it does change in pitch when I wiggle it. So I take the pump off its mounting bracket. Works flawlessly and quietly, just like it did when I bought it :/
I have a two suspicions now. The first, is the seam between the two cage halfs(body, chassi, etc) do NOT fit snuggly together upon opening it from the box, which concerned me and seems as though it should snap together a little more tightly. The second is after removing it from the mounting bracket, instant quiet which, being that the bracket holds the pump near this seam makes me think somthings up. Please save my sanity
