6045 Nanostream help needed

Im one of those guys who likes to exhaust all known possibilities before crying help. But for the sake of what little hair I have left I sure could use some ;)

This past weekend has been rough on me and my new pump. It's not on a timer and plugged straight into the strip, but once every 2 weeks or so I need to turn off for a few minutes for varying reasons, water changes, feeding etc. This time it didnt turn back on, which I naturally suspected calcium deposits and after a few tries of pluggin in and out it started back up. Just as suspected? Maybe not, it's still kinda making a rattle sound like it would on start up. So after having to leave it off till I could come back home from work to clean it, I did just that. Starts up now without a hitch but is loud and very annoying. After wiggling it around, placing my hand in front of it, to stop and restart the flow it still makes the rattling, albeit it does change in pitch when I wiggle it. So I take the pump off its mounting bracket. Works flawlessly and quietly, just like it did when I bought it :/

I have a two suspicions now. The first, is the seam between the two cage halfs(body, chassi, etc) do NOT fit snuggly together upon opening it from the box, which concerned me and seems as though it should snap together a little more tightly. The second is after removing it from the mounting bracket, instant quiet which, being that the bracket holds the pump near this seam makes me think somthings up. Please save my sanity :(

The two causes of this that come to mind is the stainless steel shaft has snapped, it should be one piece permanently fixed in the pump. Or, some sand or debris has ground down the disk which is a small nylon washer at the bottom of the hole. It is white in color and the diameter of a pencil. It sits on the shaft.

The magnet, shaft and prop come out like other pumps. So your saying it shouldnt be removable? There not seperated from each other (ie, magnet, shaft and propeller)and appear to be one piece prop.

So what are my options? I dont think this pump is even 2 months old yet.

The stainless steel shaft should not be removablt, only the prop assembly should come out, the shaft may have broken and we need to replace the motor.

Ok, I will give it a thorough cleaning, I just flushed and visually inspected where the magnet/assembly went in to looking for sand or calcification and just cleaned the magnet and wiped the prop, but will make sure with a q-tip before I send it out to you. I recieved the pump from thereefstop just this past March, can you please pm me with any information you require if indeed there is nothing I can do. Thank you for your help.

A receipt is nice to have just because it makes my records more thorough, the warranty form has a space for dealer name and purchase date. I don't need one though. Basically you just need to send me the pump and be sure your contact and return info is in the box.

I didnt comprehend what you were telling me till I looked at again under more light. Indeed the shaft has snapped like some of the others on here. I also am including the bracket holder as one of the teeth that attach to the magnet is broke to, so I wrapped it up in foam and am dropping it off at the Post Office at noon, with my reciept and a copy of this thread for reference. Thank you again.
