6045 noise

my one 6045 suddenly started making a vibrating noise. Sound like maybe its coming from the prop? or maybe its vibrating against the c clip

any ideas

Have you taken it apart? If it is an early model check and see if the shaft has come loose.

If so, how does one fix that?

If the shaft is loose and falls out the motor needs replaced. The shaft is pressure fitted and the first batches found that the well the shaft seats into was not quite snug enough and some over time came free. Tunze then had it resized I believe a fraction of a millimeter to give it a tighter fit.

No i have never have taken it apart the pump is about 3-4 months old, but has only been running in my tank for about 3 weeks now. So i dont know if it is a new or a older model. I do know the "c" clips have the older small tabs on them and i broke them. Since then Roger has sent me replacement clips.

Open the pump and check if the shaft is loose, it should not come out. If it does we need to get a new motor out to you. This was something we solved back in July by changing shaft manufacturers. You may have an older pump though. The other possibility is the small stainless steel disk slipped off the shaft and is rattling free in the pump.

Thank you Roger, i will take the pump apart tomorrow and let you know what i find.

i took the nano apart, no loose parts and i didnt see now loose washer rattling around anywhere. any other ideas? could it be the little clear dots from the magnet mount rattling up against the glass?

It could be but this is unlikely, if they are missing you may get more of a rattle. Any chance of a picture of the pump installed or wav file of the noise?
