6055 rattle

Hi guys,

Today I finally got my two 6055 running in the tank. But I was very disappointed when I fired them up. One is quite noisy, and the other isn't quite either....! If I pull them off the glas the rattle disappears and only a hum can be heard. The hum is by no means silent though....

I took the one that makes the most noisy apart, nothing out of the ordinary to see. The stainless steel disc was in place. When this pump starts it makes a little "bang" sound, the other doesn't do that...

What's wrong? Do they need to break in, or do I have a faulty set?

Any help appreciated.

okay I just played around with them some more...

If I pull them off the glas and just hold them in the water the are virtualy soundless... As soon as I place them on the glas - or actually when they are just near the glas - the noise returns. One is still worse than the other....

Anyone with a solution?

Try swiveling the pumps in different angles, make sure the rubber feet are on the magnet holders. Give them a couple weeks to run.

Every angle is the same, I have tried all positions. The rubber feet are all attached...

Since this noise is from vibrations I don't see how running them in will help?

The pump will vibrate less as the parts wear in. You might remove the drive unit and double check that the stainless steel disk is in correctly, I have seen them be stuck to the drive unit or loose in the pump and this can add a lot of noise.

I have already had them taken apart and also I took out the disk. It's the flat model, so I guess it fits both ways?!

Guess I'll just have to wait and see if they quit down, otherwise I try and get them replaced, since this is too much noise for me to handle. Also my GF wasn't too happy with the noise ;(

Same here. I was very disappointed with my 6055 purchase. Mine have been running for over a month and they still hum. It is very annoying especially with them always changing speeds if you have them on a controller. Don't stop them as they always click on start up. IMO they are not going to get any better so either get use to it or return them.

I returned one of them since the sound was too annoying for me to deal with... The guy at the shop tried it in their 100 tank fishroom and said, that he heard nothing - doooh I could have told him that.... But you should come home to my living room and listen to it there I told him. I actually had to insist that they sent it to Tunze Germany for inspection.

So we'll see what happens when I get it back.

I might even end up selling them and switch to other pumps. Are the "normal" tunze streams more quite f.x. the 6060? I have temporarily placed my koralia 3 in the tank and it is absolutely dead quite....!

All I can comment on is the 6055 since that is what I have. You and I are not the only ones to comment on the noise/hum of the pumps. For a $200 pump (US) the thing should make less noise than it does. If you are pleased with your koralia, stuck with that. I wouldn't expect much from the "inspection" I think Tunze could have used a better prop for the pump. You can not expect a 3 cent piece of stamped plastic to be balanced and IMO that is a big source of the vibration/noise/hum. Again for a $200.00 pump, I expected more quality than was found in the box.
