6055 voltage selector

I read some of the posts regarding the 6055's and I think I know the answer but I will ask anyways.

Is the voltage selector on the power supply used only for controlling the output of the powerhead? I have a 7095 controller that I will connect them to. Should I set the voltage at the max and control with the 7095?

It basically sets the top speed of the pump. Most would set it to max and then let the controller take it from there like you mentioned but you can set it lower but when the controller is at 100% the pump will still not be truely running at 100% output
