6060 turns off

My 6060 has quit turning a few times, I have cleaned it and it still quits. When I notice that it is off I unplug it for an hour or so then turn it on and it normally either sputters then turns on completely, sputters and quits or doesn't do anything. THere is some vibration so the motor is doing somthing but not the propeller.

Probably the brake shoes are damaged. Don't run it until you get this solved. How old is it? How off do you switch it off and on in a day?

it is about 3-4 months old. I turn it off 1-2 times a month when doing a water change. It is running right now, I should unplug it and send it in?

Are you sure it is completely clean? Did you clean the upper bearing and the brake shoe area? These are your most likely culprits. See the stickied thread on alarms and pump cleaning at the top of this forum, a 6060 has no alarm but the same cleaning procedures apply. I suspect some part is stuck with calcium deposits.

I am not sure how to disassemble the propeller, I was able to get the bottom part off and there was some calcium deposits in there, i cleaned that, plugged it back in and it started up, no spuddering. The brake shoe works (I tried holding the magnet and turning the propeller in the wrong direction and it only went about half way and stopped). I think maybe the calcium deposits in the bottom thing in b/n the magnet and the motor housing maybe caused a little bit of space so that it didn't turn...sound accurate?

thanks for your help

The manual shows how to dissassemble everything as does the thread at the top of the forum here. It sounds like the upper bearing (part at the bottom) is sticking to the magnet, that would cause the problem, clean it really well with vinegar and a tooth brush.
