In my opinion no. The 6095 comes with several voltage regulators ranging from 12v to 24v. This will allow you limit the amount of flow so you don't get a sandstorm. I have 3 6095s on a 70g (36"x24"x18") SPS tank and 2 on a 50g cube. I like to keep them on the back wall, so I use the 18v jumpers to keep water from blowing out the front of the tank. The 6095 is my favorite pump in the Tunze lineup!
I also think it would be fine, however the pumps are changing and the newest 6095's have a constant 24V power supply and include a controller with a range of 20-100%. It is the same controller that the 6040 has included. The jumperless power supplies have a longer life and redesigned electronics make a lower speed regulation possible.
