Got a new coral. Wild caught Australian table. All the rest of my corals were grown from frags but I couldn't resist this piece. My friend at the LFS had it for two months and it was already encrusting on the rockwork so I decided to go for it.

Thanks IPT!

It was a tough decision because he had three other pieces that were just as nice and I'm running low on coral real estate and bank account. i might go back and pick up one more though I think I can squeeze it in.

Here's how it's placed.

Very very nice tank. How are you running the system (bacteria driven, etc?) out of curiosity? It's very clean and the use of space is well executed.

@ Pilot0436 Thanks! I'm pretty hooked on SPS now but I don't think I'll ever give up my Ricordia. I just wish the pink and oranges would grow as fast as the green and the blue varieties.

@ creefer01 Thank you! My tank is heavily skimmed by a Alpha 250 and I try to do 25-35 gal water changes every two to four weeks. The sump incorporates a 12 gal refugium with turtle grass growing in it and I run BRS Roxs carbon and GFO. I have been thinking of trying out some bio pellets just to see if I can get some more color out of my corals. I've never tested my tank for nitrates or phosphates I usually just go off how my coral look and how fast the algae grows on my glass. So I just picked up a Nextreef SMR1 media reactor and 500ml np bio pellets but haven't set them up yet. Now I'm reading one of the bio pellet threads and I'm a little apprehensive about installing the pellet reactor after reading a couple horror stories.

@ pramberg Thank you. I already wish I had a couple more feet in every direction. I like the look of coral bromies or islands and lots of open sand bed.

Thanks for the insight. I'm going through some changes in my nano and am looking at modifications to my system to include the potential addition of biopellets. This will however require an upgrade to my current skimmer. I too have been reading the horror stories but I think if implemented correctly and slowly and closely monitored, there may be something to the use of pellets. I just picked up an additional reactor myself so as soon as my skimmer situation is cleared up, I'm going to give it a shot.

@ Buzzy Thanks, you've got some incredible tanks as well. I love your rock work and just wanted to say I think it looks much better and more natural with sand. What technique did you use to build that pillar on the right. I'm very interested in your cold water tank as well. Do you have to spot feed everything and how do you control your nutrients?

Thanks for the compliments jr973. creefer01 I think slows the name of the game. I'll probably start with a very small amount of pellets and add a little at a time over the course of a few months. I'm going to feed my reactor off my display drain and pipe the effluent next to my skimmer intake.
