Just got one in today, briefly looked at it before having to leave. Is it normal for there to be an oily film and drops on the flat part behind the prop looking thing. It feels like oil. Just wanted to know before droping it in when i get home. Sorry if it is in the instruction dont have them with me and havent read them yet.

All pumps are packed with glycerin from the testing process and to lubricate parts on start up. It is harmless to the aquarium.
