6100 Problem

Roger,

I have a total of 4 6100s and I love them. At the moment, however, I have a problem with one.

The alarm went off and the blue box and transformer were quite hot. I tried cleaning the pump, but that didn't seem to stop the alarm. Finally, after searching on this forum for awhile, I found the issue with the hole through the middle of the magnet. It was at least partially (probably mostly) clogged. I cleaned that and now the alarm doesn't sound, but the pump doesn't run well. It produces were little output.

I had changed transformers and the blue box just to see if either of them were the problem, but they run other 6100s just fine (still).

What can I do?

Thanks,
John

This piece that is circled should be free of the magnet and the magnet should spin freely inside it.

OK, so in that pic it isn't circled :D Anyway, the part with the redoring on it shouldn't be stuck to the magnet.

Yes,

I should have included that in my post. I checked the upper bearing and the magnet moves quite easily. It is definitely NOT stuck to the magnet. The only issue I saw there was that the rubber gasket stays in the shaft, while I can remove the bearing. I tried to get the gasket out, but I'm not sure how and I don't want to ruin it. I read in one of your earlier posts that the gasket was just there for vibration control (or something like that) and that the important thing was how the magent spun in the bearing. As I said, it seems to spin fine and I see no lime deposits anywhere.

What now?

Thanks,
John

Is the magnet cracked? If not just send in the pump.

BTW, don't send the transformer, just the pump and the blue box. Also I prefer UPS, send by US mail at your own risk and definitely use insurance and tracking if you do.

hi roger,

i have a simliar problem with my 6100

The alarm goes off for 10 seconds a couple times a day. I opened up the unit and I think that I have a damaged upper bearing, (the part that the red o-ring is wrapped around). Although it spins around the magnet freely. There are visible nicks in the inner part of the bearing where the magnet would spin around normally...

where can I get a replacement upper bearing? and how much does it cost? is it worth my money to get a new one or should i just try to sand down the parts of the upper bearing which are unsmooth?

also.. what is the best way to remove the upper bearing when it is stuck at the bottom of the hole?

thanks

The best way is to use an M-8 Screw threaded into the hole in the center and then just pull up on it. I would ask Phil Gilbert, those bearings are not very expensive, like $6. I don't ship to Canada but Phil is your distributor and he can be reached here by PM to Phil Gilbert.
