6100 streams click when the come on

Should 6100 stream pumps make a click/pop noise when they turn on? I find it annoying when they are alternating.

It is normal when they are new, cold (test run in cold tap water), or have air inside.

These have been in use for over a year. They are mounted on the expensive magnetic holder so they are deeper in the water then the over the top edge of the aquarium mounts. I do not believe there is any air inside of them. One I can actually hear when it is running. Makes kind of a buzzing noise from the propeller when it is spinning.

I soak and run them in vinegar every few months. So is there a way to eliminate the noise? Are my pumps going bad? Could the controller be starting them up too fast?

I would check the small red oring inside the impellor drive is not missing and that the brakes are okay.

I got a pair of 6100's used from someone & when I saw them up & running in his tank, they made a clicking sound when they alternated. I later found after I disassembled them that the breaks & impeller collar were broken & the collar was rubbing on the impeller shaft wearing it down in a half moon shape at the point of contact. I had to buy a rebuild kit to replace these broken parts. Not too expensive.

BTW, the 6100's were only 3 months old but Tunze advised the parts were not under warantee as the likely cause was the high +500 PPM calcium level in which the pumps were subjected to.

This precaution is found in the product literature & should be followed to extend the life of the stream.

HTH as a possible hunt for the problem.

Where does one purchase a rebuild kit and how much do they cost?

By the way... I am lucky if my calcium levels are above 425.

Actually, I think natural sea water is <400 ppm. There are (2) breaks on an impeller that are the little black plastic clips just below the impeller blade that protrude out of the collar when you turn the impeller blade a half turn, counter clockwise I think.

Looking at the instruction book I see what you are talking about.

My calcium levels are usually around 350 to 375. A little low.

I also see that the Streams are supposed to have a two year warranty. Mine are not two years old. Roger - can I get them fixed or some replacement parts?
