6101's or 6201's for a 225g?

Hello,

I am building a glass tank (72L x 30W x 24H) and would like some advice from this forum. I plan to have a thin sand bed and a mixed reef with a focus on more sps as I gain experience. The aquascape will be quite open.

I had planned on using 2 6101's but a few have said I might want more.

For returns I'm using 2 Eheim 1262's returning through the top 4 corners of the tank. The Tunze would be in the upper back corners.

6201's + multicontroller or 6101's + multicontroller?

I would entertain the possibility of using a wavebox as well. My overflow is external and centered on the back wall. I want a quiet tank.

If the sand is very fine 2 6201's might cause problems with it staying down. The 6101's will be better in this aspect but likely more flow would be desirable for SPS after they are fully grown in.

So maybe the 6201's turned down would be ideal for now? And then increase power as my corals grow?

Yes but it will still likely disturb a very fine sand, the 6201 has a wider flow diameter and that is the main problem.
