6105 Connector Melted!

Hello Roger,

The connector (where the wires meet) on my 6105 just melted down. I heard two loud "pops" then noticed smoke coming from behind the display. When I investigated I found the black box smoking and the top melted. Nothing was wet so I have no idea what happend. The transformer box was alo warm to the touch. Pictures to follow.

Please advise.

Dan

Inside that connector is a capacitor that serves as a sort of surge suppressor, it has burned out, this can happen if a fairly extreme overload occurs, either from a jammed motor, a defective motor or a bad power supply or the box getting wet. Send in the pump and power supply and we will replace them provided their is no evidence of water damage or severe neglect to the pump.

Thanks Roger. I love Tunze products and they have performed flawlessly for me but this one scared me. I get it in the mail this week.

Understandable, but it is all bark and no bite, capacitors contain thin aluminum foil and when they go, they pop and spark and it is dramatic, but fast and poses little real danger (very small ones like this at least). The plastic melts at a fairly low temperature. It really isn't as severe as it looks.
