6105 Impeller issue

Hello,

I have purchased two of the stream 6105's which I am using with a model 7095 multicontroller, now running about 24 hours. One of them makes only a mild 'hum' even at full power. The other one is much louder, making more of a 'rumble' sound even at low speed which gets louder if power is increased beyond 50%. Also, the louder one makes a 'thwack' sound whenever it starts which is audible at least 20 feet away; the quiet one just starts up smoothly.

I decided to troubleshoot by swapping the impellers between the two pumps, but I found that the impellers are not the same. The quiet one has a double-width black spacer, whereas the loud one has only a single spacer. They are otherwise identical. Could this be the problem?

Both pumps seem to push water well, the new mounts are wonderful (I had 6100's and 6200's in the past).

Thanks,
JMP

I should emphasize that, in my opinion, these are great pumps. The quiet one I could not be happier with, and I'm sure the other will get taken care of given Tunze's reputation for great service. Definitely check yours out though, and also make sure there is no air in the impeller chamber.

The disk acts as a sort of shim system, when the pump is assembled disks are added to take up the void space. When the coil is energized the magnet is pulled down and can clap against the disk, if a clicking noise is present a second disk is added to eliminate the space the drive unit would pull down on start up. It is possible yours was missed, this is done by hand. If the double disk drive unit is quieter in both pumps, just let me know and I will send a second disk to you. Some pumps get one and some get 2 and this has to do with the motor coil which varies in position by a couple of mm up or down.

The double disk impeller is definitely much quieter, especially at startup. I will PM you my address so you can send me another double disk please.

In the meantime is it OK to keep running the loud pump? I am concerned about damage to the impeller?

Just for the record, i have 3stk 6055 and are verry happy for these pumps, dead silent. And before that i have many Tunze pumps and they all work perfect.
