6105 issue

Hi Roger,
I'm having a problem w/ one of my Tunze 6105 pumps. I bought 2 through Aquacave back on Nov. 23, of 2011. About a year to a year and a half ago one started acting up on start-up. The drive unit seems to jump and click a few times before it would run normal. Once running it would settle in and work fine. I recently cleaned them (about a month ago). Yesterday i had shut them down for maintenance and upon start-up it clicked a couple of times but then stopped working altogether. The drive unit spun freely on the shaft when it was powered down. I took it out for a vinegar/water bath again and took a few pictures. I attached 1 of the motor block/shaft to see if you could see anything that might be causing the issue. The other 6105 has run flawlessly from day 1. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I don't see anything obvious in the photo. You would be welcome to send it in and I could check it out in more detail.

Thank you for the quick response. Upon further inspection of the other pump that I have they seem to be identical. I just can't figure out why this one is acting the way it is. I'm going to clean it up and give it a go. If it still is having issues I may just send it in and have you take a look. I'll post back over the next few days either way.
Thanks again.

Hi Roger, sorry to bring back an old thread but I seem to have a new issue with this same pump. I took the pump out for cleaning in a diluted vinegar bath. I disassembled the pump as I normally would. Left the pump in the bath over night. Upon scrubbing the components the next day I noticed the motor block was missing the shaft. Sure enough I checked the drive unit and the shaft snapped with a piece still in the block and the rest in the drive unit. Funny thing is that when I pulled the pump and disassembled it I never felt any resistance when pulling the drive unit. That's why I didn't notice it until cleaning. Pump was running fine before I pulled it as well. As noted earlier in the thread the pumps were purchased through Aquacave back in Nov. 2011. I'm assuming it is out of warranty. If so is my only recourse purchasing a new motor block? Help please! I'm down and out a pump right now. I've attached some pictures. Thanks in advance for your help.
Rob

Another close up shot of the motor block and broken end of the shaft. It looks as if the shaft may have a defect in it. There is a small hole in the shaft right where the shaft meets the plastic that broke off with it. The piece of the shaft still in the motor block has the same defect. Point of weakness? Take a close look at the pictures.
Thanks again.

Please send it in, we had some bad shafts early on when we switched to the fixed shaft design, they should be titanium and this should not be possible. This would only happen due to an impurity.

Address?
I should be able to get it shipped out tomorrow. Do you want just the motor block and shaft? Should I include the drive unit as well?
Thank you Roger.

Sorry but I've just gotten a chance to get around to this. Thank you Roger. I received the pump Wednesday and it's been working perfectly since. It looks like the fix was to go back to the old shaft design? Maybe I'm wrong here but that is what it looked like? Anyway it's working great. Just wanted to say thanks. Great customer service!
Rob

Nope, it is the current shaft design, fixed into the base of the motor, the old shaft had two blue end bushings and was removable. In this case I was able to press out the remaining piece of the shaft and install a new shaft.
