6200 Stuck

Well after owning 6000's, 6100's and now 6200's I finally have my first problem. My 6200's have been running now for about 1-2 months and this morning I awoke to a different alarm than the one on my clock. One of the 6200's is frozen. I took it off, it appears to be perfectly clean, no coralline or anything. I took out the impellar, cleaned it, cleaned everything else - and it worked for about 5 minues, then froze up again. When it's supposed to come on, it doesn't even "click" or anything. It just sits. I have to think it's the pump since it worked for a few minutes after wiping it down.

Any help?

Thanks.

Check the magnet for cracks and make sure the upper bearing (track at the bottom with the red o ring on it) is not stuck to the magnet. If it worked for 5 minutes even it would be unlikely to be anything but the drive unit.

Hi, took it apart - couple questions -

1) What do you mean stuck to the magnet? Do you mean the magnet holder?

2) What is the drive unit? The blue box?

I'm going to take the other 6200 off to see if anything is different.

Thanks.

OK, took them apart and noticed 2 things. On the impeller, when you turn them clockwise or counter, a plastic part extends out with three ridges. On the one that wasn't working, the ridge on the far right (both sides) had either been eroded down or broken off. Kind of strange since these pumps have been in use for less than 2 months. Second, on both of the 6200's, the blades at the base have been a little mis-shaped. It almost looks like they'd been scraped. Since I've never taken these apart, I have no idea whether it's normal erosion, or if they came in that way.

But the other 6200 is now working, been about 10 minutes so far.

Please advise what steps I should take. The Streams are my primary source of flow and I got about $1,500 in them (and waiting for the 7095 from PA).

Thanks,

David

I think the problem is from shipping. I had another customer with a similar issue in Alaska. Often times the collar (bush bearing) slips out of socket in transit due to temperature extremes and shock. Can you send me some pics so we can get you the parts you need? It sounds like the loose collar abraded the prop and because this would put the brakes in a non aligned position they would wear.

Hi, I will be able to get some pictures this week. I got these from PA, they were packaged pretty well. I did check a 6100 and it didn't have either problem (about a year old).

Thanks for the great CS, I'll have the Mrs take some pix for me and I'll post them on my website. I still have yet to figure out how to post pix here.

I think it happens to them in transit to me most likely because the boxes are large and carry on average 200lbs so the justling and temperature of the cargo hold probably has a slight effect and causes this piece to slip sometimes. The boxes can still look fine and this can happen. It is a common cause of noise complaints so i am familiar with the possibility.

Well after getting it working for a month, the buzzer went off again. I didn't want to bother you with it since it was working again. I'll try to take some photos at the end of the week, I think it's because of those tiny wings that are broken off. I don't think the damaged props have anything to do with it.

Yes, the "wings", brakes actually, control the engagement of the prop on the magnet, they also stop the pump if something is wrong. It sounds like the collar slipped up in shipping when you first got it, these parts absolutely have to be replaced because they are damaged from running in this condition. Send me a PM with your address.
