6200 vs. 6100 at lowest speed?

Hi Roger & gang,

I'm about to order a pair of streams and a controller but thought to inquire about which of the two larger ones to get.

My tank outer dimensions are 74"L x 36"W x 32"high with 330gal actual water volume. It is primarily an SPS tank, but mixed with many clams. I am not going to have a DSB in this setup, but may have a 1" bed. Not certain yet so want to err on having some sand when considering massive flow.

I'm thinking the 6200 for maximum flow and future growth but I'm concerned that the lowest speed setting with a controller might still be too strong in some cases.

I've seen 30% as the slowest, and want to have them controlled with opposing pulses. With the 6200 - is 30% of max flow still the lowest setting one can have ( like say the 6100s )?

When running a pump at lower speeds, say 60%, do they use less wattage also? Or do they end up using say 45w all the time in the 6100s case?

Maybe two 6200s is too much, and the money saved getting two 6100s can be used to buy a third 6100 in the future?

Thanks for any advice, looking forward to setting them up!

The 6200 is a wider flow but with no greater pressure or distance covered than a 6100. It would work fine. The lowest flow on all electronic pumps is 30%. The wattage does go down at low speed, 45W is the highest a 6100 would take.

Great, thanks for the reply Roger.

I'll order two 6200s then!

Oh, are the new 6200s black and does the Stream Deco Rock still work with the 6200?

Cheers.

The deco rock doesn't work with the 6200, we will have a 6200 deco rock later this year, likely around September. The pumps will start to come in in black color in June.

Ahh too bad.. thanks though.

Ordered two 6200s, a 7095 controller and magnets. Some bits still back-ordered like one of the 6200 & the magnets. Should be nice.
