6201's - Recommended placement in a 180g

I have (2) 6201's for a 180g (6x2x2) planned mixed reef (SPS-dominant).

Where should I place the streams?
What settings should I use on my 7095?

Thanks

Probably one on each of the short sides so they push water across the 6 feet.
I like interval 2.

Angled to the front glass is usually best to give a more gentle, deflected flow.

Thanks. What settings should I use on the 7095?

Interval 2 is preferred for life between cleanings, a 6hr interval most closely replicates the tides.

The tank's running now (no live rock yet), and the flow is awesome! I've placed the 6201's in the rear corners, pointed toward the front, center glass. My 7095 settings are as suggested: Interval 2, 6hr interval, fluctuating between 30% and 100%.

With this setup, the sand in the center of the tank gets blown to the sides. Can I change the placement of the streams to avoid this? Or will the sandshifting disappear after live rock is added?

I would turn down the flow to peak at 60%-80% until the rock is added. You may need to change the placement but without the rock it is hard to say.

Hi Roger,

I've added rock. With the Streams placed in the back corners and pointing towards the front center, the sand still shifts from the front, center of the tank until it is barebottom.

I then tried to move the Streams to the middle section of the side glass, and pointed the Streams directly at each other.

The sand no longer shifts, but the flow pattern (based on microbubble movement) doesn't seem as random as when the Streams were pointed at the front center of the glass.

Is this true or am I imagining? What placement of the Streams gives the most random movement? And how should I place them so that the sand doesn't shift?

Thanks!

It really is a trial and error process for every position there is a program that would give you the randomness you want I think the positioning in the photo looks fine. In general you would use interval one or two with that positioning.

The placement of the Streams in the pic is the "before" pic, where they were aimed at the front center of the glass. I took the pic before the sand had shifted.

My 7095 settings are as you've suggested: Interval 2, 30-100%, 3 sec, 6 hour.

Based on these settings, what is your personal preference? Pointed at each other or toward the front glass?
