6261 pump for wavebox not working

Hi Roger,

Trying to troubleshoot here, wondering if you have an idea based on what's happening. I noticed my wavebox not working, took it out, disassembled, took the pump out. Had it hooked to the photo cell, took that off to test, as my photcell had fallen, and I figured that was it. So I just plug it in, and the shaft moves then stops. I can take the shaft out no problem, it turns with my hand no problem. I take the plug out, try again, and it jumps... then stops. The shaft on this is the single shaft part, there's nothing to take apart, is there? It doesn't look like there is. The pump has been in operation a long time, but for the most part, looks pretty clean. I'm soaking the whole thing in vinegar now to see if it helps, but any ideas?

Thanks.

While the drive unit you have is a 6200.700, this image of the 6100.700 shows all the parts-

The key here will be that the bearing on the bottom which has a red/orange oring under it (photo is black and white) and it should not be stuck to the magnet assembly, this is a sort of track or bearing that the magnet spins on.

If all this checks out and you know the power supply works, odds are that the pump is dying.

I don't even see that, must be looking at it wrong. It's like the shaft and that's it. Like the picture you sent, I have what's in the middle, nothing else, certainly not the thing to the right of it. Hope that makes sense. Didn't know if the pump moving the shaft even a tad would mean the motor wasn't dead or not dying. If the pump is dying, is my only course of action to replace it? While I loved the wavebox, seems like I could just about buy a new one for not much more. Obviously, the cost is in the pump! Not sure if I'd reinvest in another, I may buy another Tunze to pair with the two I already have.

And Roger, if after cleaning it doesn't work, can I ship to you to inspect? I have two 6100 streams on my 180, so I'm not dying for flow or anything, no rush. If it's something that can be fixed, great. I'd obviously pay you for the time. I searched a few threads with similar stories as mine. My lights on the wave box flicker a little. When I plug it in, the shaft pulses once then does nothing. If the pump is dead, so be it, but I'd feel comfy sending to you and having you inspect it all just to be sure, and what you think my course of action should be.

Sure, you can send it in and a new pump is half what a wavebox costs, so it is still worth while. The other parts are in the pump, the bearing and oring are seated at the bottom. The collar is around the hole it sits in, the manual shows how to remove these parts.

Hi Roger,

Thanks for the quick service and sending the new pump for the wavebox. It's up and running great, but seems to be much noisier than I remember. In fact, I barely remembered hearing it. Now, I can hear it, even upstairs. Is this an issue with the new pump, or could something be wrong?

While hearing it thru the house is a bit abnormal if it is a general hum while running new pumps typically have some wear in for a few days to a week or two and quiet down over time.

Isabel412 I am not sure I understand your post. I did not see any info as to your problem.

Was a lousy copy and paste spammer. They like to copy random segments of previous posts to hide themselves but usually fail miserably. Occasionally the odd one slips past the door :p.

Also, be sure the new pump is seated in the new foam pan and both orings are on the front housing inside the box, they both go on the inside. This keeps the pump from moving. Very loud noise usually indicates the front cover came off during installation in the box, it is not firmly engaged any longer and the prop is rubbing on the housing.
