I am swapping out my last 2 6205 pumps with 6305 but I want to be sure they are the new style (the one with the fixed shaft) so I have all the same types (I have 2 6305s with fixed shafts currently). My question; when will the vendor channels be shipping only these versions (what I am trying to not do is to place an order and have the older style shipped to me)?

Thanks,
Ken

On a side-note; I don't suppose there is some kind of swap/trade program (it can't hurt to ask)?

The 6205 and 6305 were discontinued in August and replaced by 6155 and a yet to be announced model likely to be called 6255. Spare 6305 motors are still available but they are essentially the 6155 motor with a 6305 label on them, these have the fixed shaft and slightly higher rotational speed. The same applies to the 6205. The 6155 is actually marginally stronger than an older removable shaft 6305 or equal to your upgraded ones and 6255 will be even stronger and should be ready in late spring.

I'm in a similar boat. It looks like my 6200 is going out on me. Sometimes it runs, some times it makes a noise in the box and not run, or not make any noises and not run. I'm a bit confused. Why is the 6155 replacing the 6200? It's nearly 1,300 gph less than the 6200. However, it seems that you are implying that it is stronger. Am I missing something here? Do you know the expected flow rate of the 6255?

Honestly, I'm considering going with the Vortech MP60 to get the flow rate back (and plus some) or going closed loop. It seems that is my choice or wait for the 6255 or find someone selling an old 6200. Right now I'm just a bit frustrated as now 2 of my 4 Tunzes are dead. I have a 6100 still kicking around and a 6080 going as well. But that isn't enough for my 325g.

The difference is in method of measurement. Up until this August we used a combination of theoretical (calculation of rotation speed and propeller surface area) and bag testing to get our flow numbers. We now use an Ultrasound meter and measure the output flow directly. The 6155 is actually stronger than the discontinued 6305, albeit marginally. 6255 will be the strongest of any pump in this size class on the market when it is available. We now know that flow rate measurements can be all over the map for prop pumps based on method used, for example the results are generally even lower by magnetometer and much higher by the ISO dye dispersion method. In the next couple months we expect to have conclusive research as to what is correct. If you were satisfied with you 6200, the 6155 will be an improvement for sure.

Thanks for the info! So how does the 6105 compare? How does it compare to the old 6100s and the 6155? It seems that the flow of the new 6105 is comparable to the 6155. It only appears to be 500gph less, but $185 less. It seems that you get a bigger bang for your buck with the 6105. Sorry to ask so many questions, but it's been awhile since I've looked at Tunzes :) I have an 8' long tank by 30" deep if that helps. I have 2 rock islands with 6100s point toward each other and they alternate. Then I have a 6200 at one end of the tank that blows towards the other end across the rock work.

Most of the price difference is a much stronger magnet holder, but the flow is also a bit different. The current model 6105 will include a wide flow and narrow flow nozzle and depending on which one you use the flow will be either a 2ft by 8ft pattern or 3ft by 4.5ft pattern. A 6155 the flow reaches almost 6ft and is also 3ft wide.

Any idea what the 6255 gph will be? I read there are 6500? pumps used in public aquariums but I can't find them for sale anywhere. Getting by w/ some 6305's till then. Just a flow junkie I guess.

6255 will be a new pump from the ground up, it will have the basic footprint of a Stream 2 but the outlet will be nearer to 3" wide and the flow will be much stronger than the 6305, it will have at least another ft of reach and another ft of diameter. The motor, drive unit, everything will be new, it will likely be ready around May.

The 6500 series is the Master Stream pumps, these pumps are really intended for zoos and the only "consumer" version is the 6508, these are suitable for tanks over 500 gallons. They are quite large though and don't include a mounting system, they are designed to be clamped to 1" pipe. 6512 and 6515 have large industrial power supplies that should be installed by an electrician. You can see them on our site. They are roughly 12" tall and deep and 6" wide. A lot of that is just "finger guard" requirements so the prop is far enough back you can't touch it since the motor has enough power to really do some damage.

Those 6500 series look amazing! I'd be interested in putting down some $ to get on the list for at least a couple 6255's when they're ready to ship.

As the release draws closer some vendors will likely begin taking preorders, but it is still too soon.
