6305 problems

I have a 6305 stream 2 that is about 18 months old. It started making a loud rapping/popping sound and no has cut out altogether. I've tried unplugging the power supply for several minutes a couple times and no luck... As far as I can tell, the propeller spins okay in that I can't feel it binding on debris or anything....

Any suggestions?

I am not sure what would cause that noise other than a missing end bushing on the shaft or missing disk. Make sure the prop and magnet spin on the shaft and the shaft isn't just being dragged by the magnet.

I will take it apart and see if anything appears to be missing. I haven't disassembled it before, so not sure how the bushing or disk would have gotten out of the pump.

A common scenario if they have not been disassembled and cleaned in 4-6 months is the magnet and prop cement to the shaft. In the 6305 in particular there is enough force that it can spin, it drags the entire assembly, shaft and all, this results in noise and eventual overheat shut downs. Please check this, it is key that the shaft stay still and only the magnet and prop spin.

great, thanks for he help roger!
I'll give it a good cleaning this weekend and let you know how it turns out.

well, bad news... I took the 6305 apart (the impeller and magnet weren't binding on the shaft), cleaning it and reassembled it, and it still won't come on at all.

also, not to confuse things, I have an older 6100 that would frequently trip its "stuck" alarm. I cleaned it a few times, but it would still just go into alarm mode. I took it out of the tank several months ago. I understand that Tunze may have some sort of trade-in program or something towards a 6105? any truth to that?

thanks again for all your help,
jeff

Yes, I am out of 6305 spare motors for 2 more weeks. It is $180 with trade in of your old non working 6100 to upgrade to a 6105 retrofit kit, this is a new 6105 with warranty but it does not include a magnet holder, it instead has an adapter for your current rail or magnet holder.

when would you like me to send in the 6305? I can send it now and wait for parts, or I can wait a couple weeks, whatever works better for you.
I got it to work, but only for a short period of time at "half throttle" on the 7905 controller (a couple hours), after which time it cut out again.

Either way is fine, my only concern is that it may be better to limp by with having to restart it and have some flow than to go 2 weeks without.
