Hello everyone!!

Just getting back in the hobby and bought a nice 65g rr setup. We have had tanks from 200g reefs to 40g breeder reef and lots inbetween including a 65g seahorse/pipefish tank. I missed having a tank but I don't want the maintaince and expense of a reef tank. So I decided to go with the fake reef and just having some lr rubble in the sump.

I have a few ideas of some fish that I would like to have, one is a Flame Angel and the other a Midas Blenny. WAs wanting some ideas of someother fish that would make good tankmates. Also was wanting to know everyones thoughts of a small Snowflake Eel and what fish would be combatible with it. Would love to have one, but not if he's going to eat everyone :)

So let's here what you have to say...... Lori

Here is a pic of the tank:

Nice to see you getting back into the swim, so to speak.

IME with SFE's is they get pretty aggressive as they get some size on them. I had one for 15 years and once it hit about 18"-20", it was like Jekyll and Hyde.

A dwarf fuzzy lion would do well in that setup. You could also look into some of the fairy/flasher wrasses...they're awfully pretty.

Thanks Greg, I like the idea of a dwarf fuzzy lion and I have added it to my list.....

These are the fish I have chosen to have in my tank.

dwarf fuzzy lion
midas blenny
purple firefish
McCrosker's flasher wrasse
flame angel

Angels tend to nip on Lion fins, so I personally would take it off the list.
The rest of those fish are small, and may become a Lion snack. Fuzzies get to be a decent size, and will eat anything a little smaller than their size or smaller. The Blenny and Firefish are a very eatable size, IMO. I had a Fuzzy steal a piece of silverside that was as big as her. I took it from her, but she still would have tried to down it.
I think that wrasse may also be a tad big on the small side... Lions are real hogs.

You could make this a Lion/Scorp tank. Have a Male/Female/Female trio of Fuzzy Lions for instance.

I dunno Steph...we keep waspfish, which are about the same size as blennies and firefish, maybe smaller, with adult dwarf lions with no trouble.

It's that whole "size differential" thing...a small waspfish would be toast with an adult fuzzy, but an adult, not so much in a normally fed setup. IME, expect most fish to reach about 75% - 80% of their "fish base max size" in captivity.

I think if the lion goes in before the flame angel, there's a good chance of success, but a lot of that is specimen-specific. Dwarf angels aren't the same as large species. I've kept dwarf angels with dwarf lions in the past, altho admittedly, not a flame angel.

Then again, it's all about risk tolerance too...what are you willing to take a chance at trying?

Really? Every Lion I've ever had has tried to eat something it's size at least once, and I keep up with feeding :hmm4:
Do Wasps sit around? Maybe that's why the Fuzzies don't take notice?

Some sit around, some don't...our cockatoo is every bit as active as the lions when it sees the food god nearby. It often tries to snag the lions' food and vice-versa.

I don't mean to be argumentative, but considering the size of the tank, the odds of a problem might be a little more amplified. Every flame I have had in a 3-4 foot tank was a terror.
