Battery Pump for the Powerheads Incase of Blackout
Brute Trash Can x2 (One for Ro/Di Water/One for Mixing Salt)
Vita-Chem

Is all of the equipment adequate for a 65g tank? I will be going full blown reef. I am wondering if the return pump would be strong enough. If anyone can give any insight, it would be great.

Thanks,
Steve

I don't have any experience w/ the ocean runner pumps but I have always liked the Eheims. A 1260 flows about the same amouint of water or the new Tunze pumps look real nice too w/ lower power consumption.

Also check out the Tunze salt. TMPR is a great salt but I used both and personally I like the Tunze better.

Tunze seems to be very close to the Hawaiian Marine reef salt which is a great salt as well but very hard to find.

I can't find any info on that Tunze Salt. Could you give some reference as to the skimmers you recommended...?

Thanks,
Steve

(Oh and as it turns out, I might be going with something a little bit bigger.)

Nice selection of equipment. GEO is always a good choice for CA reactors. I have an ATI power module, have not put it in use yet, but looks to be a well built unit. From having a 65 gallon myself, you will quickly run out of room under the stand for all that gear, especially if you limit the stand to approx the same footprint as the tank.

Not sure about the 6025 nano streams. Non-controllable and question if they will provide the flow you need for SPS.

change the maxi jets to a mag3 I like Using more powerfull pumps to mix saltwater it helps avoid precipitation

Other than that all good choices, you won't be sorry about the osmolator that thing saved my life

I also like the tunze master recirculation pump for return, great pump with rodgers customer service

i think you are running a heater that is a little large imo. if you want 300 watts go with 2 150 watt. looks like you arent afraid to spend money! if you can go with all that equip do it! you will not be disappointed.

With setting up the same size tank as you are... where you putting all this stuff :-) i know its going to be a chore to fit similar stuff under my stand (20gal sump).

Some of this I might have on the Shelf behind the display, other stuff will be underneath the stand. So basically what is wrong with the 1st list I put, and what would you change?

Change the MaxiJet to a Mag 3 (Is that only for mixing salt, or for the Bulk Reef Supply Reactor too?)

Tunze Return Pump/Salt do you have a link of this?

People have been telling me they've been having problems w/ the Bk MIni 160.

Would a Vortech or two be better in this set up?

What is the consensus on the ATI powermodule? I am thinking of instead of going w/ the 6x39w I would go with the 10x39w or the 8x39w.

Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve,

here is a link to the tunze skimmers

tunze return pump

probably the 1073.020 would be good.

I bought my tunze salt through marine depot and they had a option for a box of 4 bags for a total of about 250 gal or so.

Tunze salt can be bought through fins reef I believe. Should be less shipping for you. I buy mine through Marine Depot. Both sires are sponsors here and have great customer service.

I'm gettin a Tunze skimmer through fins reef right now. They also import the H&S skimmers that would be a good choice for skimmer.

I would go w/ either the 150 or 200 model H&S. I assume you are looking for a int. model.

I would'nt go w/ vortechs. I'd stay w/ tunze. I think the person before was suggesting to go w/ a controllable mini stream like the 6055. You could probably go w/ 2-6055's and have control of them w/ more flow and pulse/and tidal action w/ fewer pumps in the display.

A 65 might be big enough for a mini wave box as well

I think the ATI is the best for T-5 lighting. Never used one but have heard good things. Only thing being availability but I don't know about that. I think they were hard to get at the beginning. Not sure anymore.

I would highly recommend going with 2 Tunze 6055's over 4 6025's. I know it's going to cost more, but you've got really good taste with most of the equipment, so don't skimp here. The 6055's are controllable and you can get the Tunze Safety Connector which you can connect to a 12v battery - since you are already thinking about outages. If power goes out, the 6055 will automatically switch over to battery power.

The Tunze 9010 skimmer is very good for a 65g tank - works great on mine.

1. Which Tunze Return Pump would you suggest stand would be around 30" High.
2. I am not sure about the Tunze Skimmers, people haven't really been reviewing them, and I would like more resources to base the purchases on. Ugh...so hard to choose.
3. Do you think that the lighting choice for the ATI Powermodule is good? Or is 10x39w overkill?
4. Tunze Wavebox or the Tunze Nano Wave Box?

Thanks,
Steve

I think the 6x39w is plenty of light. You can keep anything with it. Does the 10x39w even fit over the 65g? It must have very narrow reflectors.

System looks pretty good. I don't know about finnex heaters, always used Stealths and Jaegers.

The only thing I don't like is the one drain. My 65 cube only has one with a durso and it has overflowed twice on me. I'ts acrlyic and I hate it. I'm gonna buy a glass tank with matching dimensions soon enough with 2 drains.

Are you taking this with you to college?

For a skimmer you could do a DAS EX-1 or EX-2 or the new octopus extreme's would be nice as well. There's probably a ton of really nice skimmers that would wipe a 65 clean, I'm not a skimmer nut so thats just what pops in my head for doing the job.

I personally believe on reef salt that you have your reactor set to handle supplements and go with cheap reef crystals. 46.99 for 160gallon bucket. They have specials on it all the time for in the 30.00's. They have 3x50g bags on sale right now. You're reactor will be set to compensate for your specific water change routine. Stay the course and check your levels to make sure you can make and adjustment to your reactor if needed and you'll save your bucks on more expensive salt.

I think on the return you should just stick to an eheim. The tunze are nice but so are eheims and they're 50 bucks cheaper :) The Ocean Runners are even a little cheaper than the eheims and they're nice too. Those three brands are in the same bracket for quality/performance in my book.

The nano wavebox for sure.
