$7 wave box

Instead of bamboo, make it out of 3" PVC, will create lots of wave.

Yeah, the trick I think is to have a proper foam bumper so it doesn't go knock knock. Would be kind of cool on one of those steampunk setups to do all fancy.

dude thats dope...i wish i had a canopy so that i could try this out haha

ha ha Thanks! It cracks me up that this thread has resurfaced. I actually forgot about this gizmo.

You could easily use this without a canopy. it would be ugly as sin but totally doable. just use a hot glue gun and glue the bottom of the red box to the rim of your tank. (assuming you have a rimmed tank.) Heck, you could set it up on a shelf on the wall above your tank with a raceway to direct the water where you want it.

wow! that just openned a door in my brain. You could set it up in your fish room if you have one...rig up a way for the water to flow thru the wall and into your tank. all the noise from the contraption would be contained behind the wall and youd get a surge of watr coming thru the wall in intervals.....

That kerplop sounds kind of familiar. Can't place it though. I all of a sudden have to go to the bathroom.

Jbird. My idea was a plunger. Although I'm positive I have seen it somewhere else. So not my idea. I think.

Get a small 12v motor. Add a piston type doohicky to it but going down, not up so it pluges the water. The deeper the plunger would be in the water the deeper the effect would be.

Okay. You or some one get to work on it.

I think the one I'm basing this on was in a multi thousand gallon tank and they used a 55 gallon drum with a very large motor. It didn't dump water it pumped up and downcreating a surge.

Maybe it is time to start on the "New and Improved" model?

Just don't go,

Hey Jbird. Do a search on CARLSON or BORNEMAN surge devices. Also stumbled on Dylans dump on Youtube.

How I got there from watching guys eat it on bikes is wierd.

Wonderful vision of you plunging your toilet repeatedly and splashing water all over your bathroom floor! Same principle in a reef??? LOL :D

What about putting a piston inside of a larger tube and having the tube immersed deep into the water and have it tall enough so the up motion didn't pull water up and out of the pipe. Watch out for that sandstorm in the bottom of the reef. I think that might be along the lines of a wave2k maybe? Never seen one inside or in person but I imagined that is basically what is in it but using a screw drive to move a rectangular piston up and down.

We will be right back after this message from our sponsor.

A Carlson A basic full siphon.
&
A Borneman Toilet tank guts.
&
Dylans Dump A rocker style like the $7 wave box.

The problems with the first two methods is the ammount of bubbles they introduce into the reef. I have seen videos of a rather large Carlson on a large reef. Filled the entire tank with tiny bubbles. Rockers Rock!

Just give me a MP40w and I'll go sit in the corner.

While I go,
