G'day Carl,

I just found your thread from the link, thanks for that.

I've just caught up on your thread, Wow talk about going the whole hog  I love the idea of skylights. My current tank is set up in front of a window and gets natural light all day :bum:

Looking forward to seeing this progress along, and don't worry I won't bump your thread, I hate that too

Cheers

Chris

That is one crazy shower dude...not the ideal hangover surrounds! I would definitely hurl in there. That roof deck will be supreme. The view will be fabulous with an added bonus of a reef! :D

I don't think I could live in Maine myself. My parents offered to buy me a bank in North Carolina.....

Wow, that is quite a statement to sneak into this thread! LOL!

I am a little dense this morning. What do you mean by that?

"My parents offered to buy me a bank"

That is not like offering to buy you a cup of coffee. To me, buying someone, anyone, even your son, a BANK, is a VERY BIG DEAL, LOL!!!

Sort of like casually mentioning "My parents offered to buy me the NY Yankees...."

Sorry everyone for derailing the thread.

Oh sorry, I get it now. No, they just had some misguided idea that they cold lure my family to North Carolina. They have a lot of money, and occassionally try to use it against me. I'd rather be poor than live there. And that's why Kalifornia has so many people living in self-imposed poverty! :)

Banks aren't that big of a deal BTW. It's a mystery to most people but they are businesses just like any other. Anyone can start a bank with ingenuity and the right set of partners. A friend of theirs started a bank in the SF Bay Area some 15+ years ago and it's now a big company.

Beautiful..... one thing I highly reccomend is that you do not add any mushrroms to this tank. Unlike zoo's even if you isolate them to there own island they will pop off and float around the tank until they attach somewhere else and net thing you know is that there EVERYWHERE

lol I am not sayin he is ;) But in those pics he posted there shrooms and im sure he's goonne be transfering those tank to the new one :)

i agree, no shrooms, no xenia, no green star polyps, no zoanthids.

there will be a RBTA, hopefully it will stay on it's own little island

i do have a large bubble, some frogspawn and other LPS corals that will go in the tank along with the SPS corals.

my largest clam has a few zoanthid polyps growing on it. how to remove them prior to putting in the new tank?

did i say no Aptasia or Mojano's either? one batch of live rock that is in the outside container brought in some of them and there are quite a few now. i will be pulling each rock, examining it and cutting off the anemone outside the tank, then burning the stump with potasium permanganate, PP, and putting it in another QT tank until i am sure it is all gone.

just scrape the zoanthids off the clam and use a clean 3M pad to finish the surface. Aiptasia is a whole nuther game. I would pull the rock and let it sit out dry for a month. Then I would dip it in lighter fluid, light it on fire, and when they run out into the clearing, I would hit them with a ball peen hammer....

Oh wait, that's the cure for crabs.

Tweezers are all you should need to rip off zoas at the base. Just be sure to wash them before putting back in wive's medicine cabinet.

:lol::lol::lol:
That sounds like something my wife would accuse me of doing :D

Im intrigued......a setup like this in Florida would do great. In any case.....I am tagging along.......how is it looking now.

1-1-08 happy new year! the tank and closed loop is holding water. hurray!

two Sequence Hammerhead pumps.

here is the pattern of the ten holes in the bottom of the tank.

first number is pump, second is outlet. OceansMotions 4 way returns. they feed two at a time opposites, 1 and 3, then 2 and 4.

1-1 2-1 1-2 2-2

return to pump 1 return to pump 2

1-3 2-3 1-4 2-4

right now there is about 10" of water in the tank and the closed loops are rocking and rolling, like being on the ocean on a stormy day as they fire straight up at the water surface. i am liking the way the water surges up and down.

lots of time to play with the direction of the flow but it looks really cool now. the straight up will definitely be the first iteration.

check out the waves.

insulation under the tank will get another layer, it is already very quiet from pump sounds in the living room. the pumps are below the floor level but right now open at one end into the closet. this will eventually get blocked off as well.

a few days of freshwater testing and then i can put in some saltwater and start aquascaping. i am so excited!!

Carl
