7095 resetting

My multicontroller resets after the power is cut. I have it set to interval 2 on night mode with a 1-60s interval. If I turn the power off and on again it goes to Interval 1, no night mode and 12 hour interval.
I was recently on a thread which said this shouldn't happen and it should 'remember' the settings.
Is this a normal function or is there a problem. Thanks for reading.

Why does mine hold its settings then?
I have mine set for interval 2 - 3 sec pulse - 60 sec interval. I can remove power, all lights go off on the 7095, plug the power back in and it always comes back to the same state. Never defaults to interval 1 and 12 hr. Is there a period where it remembers its state? I've had this setup for ~ 2 years and it has never defaulted state.

I took a short video. You can see I am running interval 2. I powered off and back on. Everything comes back just as it was.

Roger, can you clarify this. The resetting is my biggest gripe with the controller. sjm817's controller 'remembers'. Why is that?

not roger but I think I can say this:

the "dials" will of course stay where they are...

the buttons toggle an electical part inside the box...
now that button has a default state that it will have when first powered on.

if the power just goes off for a second or so it may "hold" state and come back.
but that is not for sure....
when a power glitch like a surge or a power loss happens then it's a role of the dice.

part of the reason is that circuts use parts like capacitors
a capacitor is "just like a battery" but with a charge that depends on the spec of the part.

so in some cases that charge keeps the parts set for a short time, but if it's lost power for to long or gets a surge it may have a charge, lose a charge or even burn out (surge,spike)

so the general answer is with no power it will re-set to the default.
YMMV depending on how long the power is out etc...

I was working on the tank earlier and had it off for at least 1/2 hr, maybe even 1 hr. It came back on to the same settings as always. Again, I've never had it default to interval 1 in the 2 years I've owned it.

BangkokMatt, how long does power have to be off for it to reset?

depending on the way the circut is built they may have a "memory" of the switch state that duing a power glitch gets re-set

I know if I just pull the plug it keeps my settings, but after a thunderstorm one day it lost the settings and had to be re-set.

The power only needs to be off for a split second and it will reset. It has never held its memory.

It is exactly as figuerres decribes, the only thing holding the program is the charge of the board and we do not advertise that it will hold the program, in some cases it does due to a built up charge but in others it doesn't. Usually some features have to be reprogrammed after a power interruption. My guess would be it has to do with how it is shut down. In sjm817's case, he likely is unplugging the pumps or switching off the power strip. In BangkokMatt's case, it is likely that the power is failing and the pumps are stripping any last bit of power on the controller.

I honestly don't know. I have never done it but will try after work and get back to you.

Just tried switching off the unit at the mains and the same thing happened. Oh well, time for a battery back up I guess. We have a lot of short power outs here in Bkk.
