7096 and 2 6105's

Well, got a 7096 and two 6105's in a 48"x18"x22" tank.

These 6105's put out some serious flow. I went straight to the 12v jumper and didn't even try the 18v ones, I would have had water sloshing all over the place. The pumps are pretty quiet, with the exception of using it on the wavemaker mode, the quick start and stops produce a 'thunk-thunk-thunk' noise. I will not be using that mode, so it does not bother me, I am also assuming that once they break in the noise would go away.

I've had time to play with the settings for an hour or so last night. I have one pump on the side wall next to a corner overflow point across the tank. The other pump is on the opposite side, but on the back wall angled toward the center of the tank. So far I settled on the sequential random flow setting.

Fish were freaking out a little with the increased flow, but I think they will get used to it. I will have to move some of the coral around as well.

I do have a question, as I was playing with the settings and moving the pumps from different channels, it looked like one of the pumps would go into the feed mode where it would spin for a split second and then stop. Even unplugging the power supply and the cable from the 7096 did not remedy this. It did this twice - same pump. If I put the power supply to the other pump it would go on and using the other power supply on the 'feed pump' did not change anything. It fixed itself somehow afer plugging and unplugging the different components. Am I missing something? I am hoping it was just a result of playing with settings, etc and when I get it dialed in, I will not be moving anything.

This leads to my next questions. Right now, I have both pumps power supplies plugged into an Aquacontroller DC8, which is on a UPS. Can I still use the feed mode on the AC3 where it would just cut the power to the 6105's and restart when it is done? This makes things a bit easier as my return pump, skimmer, etc also shuts down in feed mode on the AC3. Not to mention when I am doing maintenance on the tank, it is much easier to shut everything off with the AC3. Also, I haven't tested it yet, but in the event of a power failure, I am assuming the 7096 and pumps would not see a difference running off of the UPS?

Sorry for such a long post. I am extremely happy with this so far, as I have been with my Tunze skimmer.

Thanks for a great product.

I am not sure what effect the redundant controllers would have, the fish care function activates in foodtimer mode or any other mode where a pump is "off" but still has power. The UPS would keep the 7096 running and everything would work normally.
