7096 "no unit found!" problem with install

Hello,

I just purchased the 7096 from Premium Aquatics after my old controller was deemed fried by Tunze repair in Texas. The 7096 software installed fine, as did the drivers (via Windows install). I am using a Vista laptop. The problem is that the Multicontroller Program does not recognize the unit, hence the "no unit found!" text at the bottom left of the program. I've tried several re-installs to no success. I've read the PDF manual and it does not elaborate on what to do for this error. Can somone from Tunze help me? Thanks.

Sure, typically all you have to do is go to your settings on the Windows Control Panel and set the controller to COM port 1, 2 or 3. Whichever is not used by something critical. Set flow control on the port to Xon/Xoff and leave everything else at the default setting and it should be recognized.

I set it to COM port 1, set the flow control to Xon / Xoff , left everything else at default, restarted the Multicontroller program, and still get the unit not found! message. The computer recognizes the 7096, but the Multicontroller program does not. Pulling hair out :-) Any other suggestions? And is this Roger, whom looked at my old controller Jeremy from PA sent to Tunze?

Yes, I got your controller, it was water damaged and it is obsolete so spare boards are not available any longer. I am sorry for the frustration, a lot of these quirks will be addressed in a software update due in March. Another possibility is the USB cable is too long for the power level of the laptop at the USB. It is timing out waiting for the signal as it is too weak. On the Tunze website you can download an updated version of the program with a longer delay for USB communication to establish, but it may be easier and more foolproof to just use a shorter USB 2.0 A to A cable you may have around from another device.

Yes, that old controller was indeed fried, but it lasted 5 years or so and I'm pleased with that. I've tried a 2 ft USB cable, same result. My computer recognizes the device just fine (device manager, being able to set the COM port and adjust properties, and that Windows did the driver install). However it wont sync to the Multicontroller program v 1.0.10.0 (which is the newest program available on tunze.com). So really, how can I get the program and device, which are both installed, to sync?

Thanks so much for your time Roger.

As you can tell we are new to software, so the version on the website while new has the exact same version number, it has a minor bug fix that makes the program wait longer to make contact with the unit. What you describe is a problem I have had and it was remedied by the new version of software, setting to Com3 and using Xon/Xoff. Try it, if you still have trouble tomorrow, I will make the time to get on the phone and walk you through it while I set one up here. I use an iMac running Vista in VMware but it is functionally the same. The main issue I have is that since a Mac uses USB keyboard and mouse those are Com 1 and Com 2 and the isight camera is Com 3 and all the USB and firewire ports go up to Com 7 which are out of range of the software search. I would uninstall the old software and just download the new one from the site.

Downloaded and installed new software from tunze.com. Again, "unit not found!" I'm so confused.

And I'm an IT Networking guy so I know my way inside a computer pretty well. This is truly confusing.

I'll continue to see if I can get it working this evening. If I can't, I'll PM you my #. I appreciate your help. Thanks Roger.
