72 days ich back?

You went 72 days fallow first time Tasso?

Yes i did...when everyone was back in the display after being treated in QT everything seemed fine for a few months then it all started over again. I am even questioning if fallow periods do any good at all.

Did you do TTM for the fish?

I am curious what size tanks and what equipment people used for their fish treatment QT's (TTM procedures or other) in the situations that fallow appeared to be what failed. The only time my TTM ever failed (that I know of anyway) was when I used 30g tanks with heavily infested fish. For whatever reason, something went wrong. Maybe just wasn't as easy to disinfect the surface...

In my case i was dealing with Velvet or Brook, not ick so i did not use TTM to treat them, i used CP. I did however use TTM on the fish along with prazi initially once i purchased the fish. I used 2 10g tanks with just heater and HOB filter for each tank

i did a fallow period for ick about 3 years ago and it worked fine. however, i went almost 3 months, because the studies i read confirmed 72 days as the longest in the "cyst" stage; but i thought one needed to add a few more days for the stages on either side of the cyst stage to be sure?

I do 3 months on QT of inverts as well.

It almost seems to me that in order to be 100% sure no parasite enters the DT, you need to setup a QT similar in size to the DT if not identical and put your fish in it for 1 year to make sure nothing is wrong and then move then over. A smaller tank for corals and inverts as well would be needed for the same amount of time. I think 12 months should be the new protocol.

Why not don't even have a DT, just decorate the quarantine tank and use that for your tank. When you want to add a new fish, start a new quarantine tank so you can have quarantine tanks all over the place. I think that's a great idea.

I'd be interested to know how far away from the display tank people are setting up TTM or QT, especially those who have experienced a relapse?
I believe, ten feet is the minimum recommended distance to prevent aerosol transmission of ich?

I have my QTs in a completely separate part of the house.

my QTs are only 4 feet from my DT, which I don't like; however I at least have a curtain that separates between them, so shouldn't get any splatter... aerosol on the other hand might.

I have a question. When you are going fallow, will a couple large water changes in that time frame help speed up the process of eradicating ich? I am going fallow right now and it is very painful not seeing any fish in my display.

No. Patience.

The chances of cross contamination is always there. When you did water changes and maintenance did the new water shared the same reservoir between the Qt and display?
